Is Dumpster Diving For Makeup Really Worth It?
Brytni's EDIT

OK, so yes, you read the title right. I am talking about dumpster diving. Dumpster diving is something that has been flooding social media like YouTube, Instagram, Snapchat, etc.

IT IS FRICKIN' GROSS!

So many people will come to me and ask me if I have heard of dumpster diving and if people do it at Ulta.

Answer? Yes.

Do I recommend it? No. I cannot even stress how gross this practice is. It makes me cringe watching people do this on YouTube and just think that it’s okay. So basically I am about to give you the rundown about dumpster diving and the truth about it.

So dumpster diving can be practiced to achieve the findings of different foods, and products that a company/store has disposed of for various reasons. I am going to touch more in base on the beauty products aspect because that is what I am most educated about, so that’s where this post is going to go.

So if you watch YouTube, there are girls (and guys) who have been sneaking on to a beauty store’s property, and getting into the dumpsters in hopes that they find some free products that the store has pitched. I am going to be very blunt about this, what the heck is wrong with you people?! These products that are pitched in the dumpster are the stores TESTER products or products that can no longer be on sale. There is a reason they're in the trash!! Those products have accumulated bacteria that can not be de-sanitized, I don’t care how much you think that rubbing alcohol and de-sanitizer is the key to restoring these products. It’s not! There is still bacteria from all of the hands that have touched these products and have applied them on the face.

Anyways, so the sanitary reasons are just one of the many reasons dumpster diving is messed up!

These people are trespassing. I don’t care if it’s “technically” public property because it’s not land owned by the business; but it is their property. I think it’s so rude that people are invading these properties simply for their own agenda to find these products and just not have to pay full price for it, or want to make a profit out of it. There’s so much wrong with that ethically that it bothers me to even touch base on. These products were not purchased by you, therefore it’s not right to even sell these products for your own benefit.

Now, there is a reason that dumpster divers typically find products that are disgusting and destroyed. That’s because we destroy them. Sometimes companies will add additional chemicals to these products simply so people STOP diving in their dumpster.

Let’s touch on another reason for how dumpster diving is messed up. Simply for those of you who have no morals can’t resell them because technically it’s not legal for you to do so. Dumpster diving is stealing. You can argue with me on that all you want but it is a disgusting practice that I will never advocate.

And for those of you who ask me if they should do it, or if it’s okay to do it so they can get free makeup to haul: No you should not do it! You are risking exposing your face to chemicals that you shouldn’t be exposed to, and it’s not even right to do.

Oh, also another thing to talk about. Do not enter giveaways by people who are trying to give away these used, “just like new” products. In a nut shell, make your own money with a real job, and buy actually NEW products for yourself. Do not rely on products you find in a dumpster just because you want to add more makeup to your collection.

Summer: a time (usually) free from school work and a time to relax with your friends and family. Maybe you go on a vacation or maybe you work all summer, but the time off really does help. When you're in college you become super close with so many people it's hard to think that you won't see many of them for three months. But, then you get that text saying, "Hey, clear your schedule next weekend, I'm coming up" and you begin to flip out. Here are the emotions you go through as your best friend makes her trip to your house.

Kourtney Kardashian

Winter break is over, we're all back at our respective colleges, and the first week of classes is underway. This is a little bit how that week tends to go.

The professor starts to go over something more than the syllabus

You get homework assigned on the first day of class

There are multiple group projects on the syllabus

You learn attendance is mandatory and will be taken every class

Professor starts chatting about their personal life and what inspired them to teach this class

Participation is mandatory and you have to play "icebreaker games"

Everybody is going out because its 'syllabus week' but you're laying in bed watching Grey's Anatomy

Looking outside anytime past 8 PM every night of this week

Nobody actually has any idea what's happening this entire week

Syllabus week is over and you realize you actually have to try now...or not

Now it's time to get back into the REAL swing of things. Second semester is really here and we all have to deal with it.

panera bread

Whether you specialized in ringing people up or preparing the food, if you worked at Panera Bread it holds a special place in your heart. Here are some signs that you worked at Panera in high school.

1. You own so many pairs of khaki pants you don’t even know what to do with them

Definitely the worst part about working at Panera was the uniform and having someone cute come in. Please don’t look at me in my hat.

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.
