LOUISIANA — Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump is under fire once again, this time from an unlikely source: former Ku Klux Klan Imperial Wizard, and Louisiana candidate for Senate, David Duke.
Duke, until recently, was one of Trump's most loyal supporters. But when Trump's campaign disavowed Duke at the tail end of August, saying, "Mr. Trump has continued to denounce David Duke and any group or individual associated with a message of hate. There is no place for this in the Republican party or our country," Duke decided it was time to speak up.
"Donald Trump is stealing our ideas. He's taking what's best about neo-Nazi culture and pretending he discovered it. It's the crassest form of cultural appropriation," Duke said in a statement. "If Trump wants to get rid of all the Mexicans and Islamists, I'm all for it! But, give credit where credit is due."
So far, the Trump campaign has given Duke no credit. Trump's running mate, Mike Pence, recently said that Duke's continued support, "really bothers me."
Duke had choice words for Pence: "What really bothers me is these guys hating on illegals like it's their thing. Hating brown people is my shtick. Now if you'll excuse me, we're trying to set the record for most crosses burned," Duke said.
However, Trump may have bigger fish to fry at the moment. The ghost of Jefferson Davis recently said in a statement: "I can no longer sit idly by, dead and all, and let Donald Trump appropriate 1860's culture."
This is satire. David Duke, and other white supremacists, still loves the Donald. In fact, when asked by NPR if Trump's voters were his voters, Duke said, "Well, of course they are! Because I represent the ideas of preserving this country and the heritage of this country, and I think Trump represents that as well."
