The day has come! The duck face pose is slowly coming to an end in selfies, and now there is a new facial expression women are using, the "fish gape."
If the name doesn’t ring a bell for you, a quick Google image search will clear all confusion you have. You probably have already seen the pose all over Instagram. This will clear up whatever confusion you have left after your Google search.
Fish gaping is when your mouth is pushed together, slightly, with a small amount of your teeth showing, or not at all. Just like the duck face, this look flatters your face by accentuating your cheekbones, helping your contour. But the fish gape allows for a more natural look when taking a picture.
The fish gape is dominating the seflie game, considering the Kardashian and Jenner ladies are only using this pose in their Instagrams. I follow Kylie Jenner on Snapchat (@kylizzlemynizzl) and she uses this face in EVERY pose, making her lips even larger than they already are, but believe me, it is much better than the duck face.
Many other models, celebrities and ladies are rocking the fish gape. For example Taylor Swift has been supporting the fish gape in all of her recent music videos. Swift shows that you can turn the look two ways, either I’m a badass (Bad Blood Music Video) or I’m innocent (Wildest Dreams).
Now this pose isn’t just for selfies, many of these ladies have been seen working this pose on the red carpet, and in regular pictures. For the models and celebrities, all they do is smile for the camera whether it is on the red carpet, or for the paparazzi, and they’re tired of it. And so are their cheeks. I know after my senior Prom my cheeks were shaking after smiling for half an hour, imagine what models have to go through at day-long photo shoots.
This new pose is perfect for those ladies that are just tired of smiling, or doing the duck face, and want something new. All of my favorite girl crushes look gorgeous when supporting the bold new look.
The fish gape gives off an “I’m not really trying, but I still look fierce” look, and who likes to look like they’re trying these days?
