With members of the community anxiously waiting for the past year, Miss Kay's Bakery finally opened this past Tuesday on Antique Alley of West Monroe. The expected opening date was said to be around early March, so the excitement for the early opening was highly anticipated by many. The unique location chosen for this bakery has entirely enhanced the flavors of the downtown area while giving it another place of interest for our small town.
After visiting the shop on its opening day, I realized how much I loved its fit in Antique Alley. From taking an old car shop and creating a beautifully exposed bakery, it blends well with the scenery of downtown. In West Monroe's setting, one type of location that needs continuance in expansions are coffee shops and study-type places. The obvious places like Books-A-Million, Starbucks, the library, and the Corner Coffeehouse have now become crowded and loud. In a culture that is obsessed with the hustle and bustle, it's always nice to find a nice, quiet place to relax and think.
If you are a college student that needs coffee, free wifi, and some quiet, then this might be the perfect place for you. It's the perfect amount of noise level for studying, for it's not as busy as most local coffee shops. The convenient bar that is accompanied by charging stations and tall, open windows that give beautiful rays of natural light will put you in just the right mood to finish that assignment or study a little.
Even though the full menu will not be avaliable until January of 2017, customers can still purchase items from the limited menu, which include: coffee, pies, homemade biscuits, and brownies. Although Miss Kay is not the head of cooking, she made sure that all of the recipes came straight from her cookbook.
If you love small, open, and refurbished places to study or relax, then you will love what is simply going to become the next new place for West Monroe.
