This is for the people that live in their cars. This is for the people that fly down backroads late at night with the windows down. This is for the road-trippers and off road riders. This is for the people that just need to feel the steering wheel in their hands.
It was your 16th or 17th birthday. You finally passed your test and you and all your friends finally had a person to drive around without much of parental permission. You may not like your car, but it's something that is yours and it gets you to where you want to go. You get in your car for the first time by yourself and you feel freedom run through your fingertips and turn the radio on a little higher than you think it should go. Driving is now your escape.
You just swallowed one of the toughest pills you ever had to swallow. You run out to your car because you need to escape from the world for a little while. You put your phone away, play the music you want to help you relax and you peel off. You don't worry about the gas money you're wasting. You don't worry about the rubber your burning underneath you. It's just you and the road. Driving is now your escape.
It's getting late, the sun is setting, and the colors spread across the sky. You start to appreciate the world a little bit more and you're sure glad it picked tonight to be so beautiful. You decide you want to take the long way home. You can't really decide what is louder: the engine revving, the wind coming whistling through your car, the music you put on full blast, or your voice that's trying to be louder than anything else. Driving is now your escape.
People will call your car messy. It might have a couple dents and dings, might smell a little funny, it's MPH and MPG aren't as high as you want them to be, but that's where you are home. That's where you are yourself. That's your space where you can escape from it all.
So:
Don't be afraid to take the long way home.
Don't be afraid to throw a sweatshirt on so you can turn the windows down.
Don't be afraid to push the pedal down a little harder.
Don't be afraid to turn the music louder.
Don't be afraid to sing a little louder.
The road is yours.
Driving is now your escape.
