Anyone that has ever driven a car knows the things that bring out the most road rage in them, some more severe than others. Traffic and accidents can be avoided if we pay more attention while driving. Here are 5 common instances that occur and some solutions to keep traffic flowing and make driving much easier for everyone.

1. Mind Your Business

Have you ever noticed that once you finally get past a ton of traffic, the reason for the traffic wasn’t even on the same side of the road as you? This happens all the time and there’s nothing to blame other than people being nosey. Lane closures and detours make sense for traffic, but when there isn’t a single road block in front of you and you’re too preoccupied with someone else’s accident or because someone got pulled over- that’s not a reason to start traffic. Keep it moving.

2. Speed Limit

The speed limit is a kind reminder of how fast you should drive on that specific street. Just because the speed limit on a residential road is 25 miles per hour, doesn’t mean that it is the same on a highway. Do at least the speed limit and everyone will get to where the have to go in a decent amount of time

3. Signals

Signals are something that is taught in Driving 101. They are to be used WHENEVER your car is being moved to the left or to the right. This includes turning in an intersection, switching lanes on a highway, getting off on an exit, and so on. Using signals will help out all of our fellow drivers on the road.

4. Cutting People Off

Being cut off is already annoying, but if you are going to cut someone off, make sure that you maintain the flow of traffic. It's bad enough that the driver that you cut off had to slow down, but it’s even worse when they have to slam on the brakes because you’re driving less than the speed limit.

5. Blocking Intersections

Most people do this without even realizing, but by blocking an intersection a driver is unable to continue moving through traffic. If a light is red and someone is stopped at a stop sign to the right of you and they’re trying to make a left, they won’t be able to if the intersection is blocked. Driving can be easier for everyone if we put ourselves in everyone’s position.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours.
