I drive around the city, imagining times with you...late-night walks, stargazing, mountain views overlooking dimly lit streets...
I want to make these memories with you, show you the world I see, and alternately see it through your eyes. I see us driving on single-lane roads, with names like Old Powerline and unique features to match the names. I picture us sitting down to coffee (tea for you?) on an outdoor porch, the river beneath us, a bright, blue spoked walking bridge overhead, leading to a city marked with the rust of history and the gleam of modernity. Green hills to the South, a flat endless expanse to the North. Can you see it? Can you feel the warm breeze dancing on your bare forearms? The sunshine creating an atmosphere of happy thoughts-- imagination running wild, a contended quiet?
Admittedly, it rains here quite often. Don't worry, then we'll watch the downpour from behind floor-to-ceiling window panes. If it catches us by surprise as we walk across uneven downtown sidewalks, then we'll run until we see a shop that catches your eye. And it won't matter that we're soaking wet; the rain won't last long, and I always keep a warm blanket in my car. The hours will drift by, and I'll require nothing more than to spend them with you. Can you imagine it?
I'll show you my home-away-from-home, and you can show me yours. I don't mind long road trips! We can tell each other what these cities mean to us, how that meaning's changed, and if we can see ourselves there in the future. Then we can go back to our hometown and experience it like never before. You can show me your favorite places from when you were a kid, and we can act like kids all over again. I'll show you where I played basketball, where I broke my arm, where I had to sneak into and occasionally ran to outpace approaching sirens and searchlights. We can make up for lost time, not losing any more of it. I don't know if we'll always be together, especially at first, but distance is only as far as we decide it to be. "Feasible" is what we make it, remember?
I'll keep driving, let me know when I should head your way.
