Drinking As Seen Through Sober Eyes

The things you see when you are sober at a party versus when you are drunk.

Drinking As Seen Through Sober Eyes

Don't get me wrong... Everybody loves a good party, but some of us don't have to drink to enjoy it. It is more about the socializing, and being around people who also want to have a good time even if they are drinking. Which is fine to me because if anything drunk people make me want to have more of a good time and be more of myself because they can't judge me either, and half the time they don't even remember what happened that night. It usually takes the sober people to re-cap what happened the night before, and it usually goes something like this.

Awkwardly Arriving

Usually everyone starts out at that awkward not yet drunk phase, and doesn't really know who to socialize with or where to stand, and maybe if it's acceptable to dance yet, or not.

Goodbye Awkwardness

Once more people begin to arrive, and the room starts getting crowded people begin to share their alcohol, or even drinking more of the punch/beer that is usually provided, and you can feel the awkwardness leaving, and the carelessness beginning. Sometimes people are already pretty tipsy during this time because of the pregame before the party, and those are the people breaking the awkward barrier.

The Tipsy Phase

This time is where you can start to tell that people are beginning to feel the effects of their alcohol kick in. They start to become way more comfortable at the party everyone is going with the flow, and no problems are arising yet.

Drink Drank Drunk

These are the most interesting parts, and the series of phases that happens once everybody is most definitely drunk and wants to keep drinking.

The Dancers

You see this all the time at the party you have the kind of people that once they are drunk they are the sexiest thing on the dance floor. Us, the sober people, watch their friends build their self-esteem when dancing, and egging them and most of the time joining in.

The Arguers

99.9% of drunk people who don't know you personally accuse you of being drunk as well, and offer you as many drinks as possible, and when you say you are drinking water because you don't drink the argument then occurs. You have to do a million and one things just to prove you don't drink.

No Party Would Be Complete Without A Fight

Once alcohol is in people's system fights end up breaking out, and they usually end up being over nothing from a sober persons' perspective, but to a drunk person it is a huge deal. Somebody could be dancing and step on someone else's toe, and all hell breaks lose.

Girl's Who Want To Be Everyone's Friend

This usually happens in the bathroom. When any girl walks into the bathroom it is the most exciting thing because you just became instant friends. You act like you have known each other all your life. You pee together, you tell them about your drama, and all they want to do is be best friends.

The Emotional Girls

When alcohol comes into play the feelings come out, and they can't help but cry about stuff that won't even matter tomorrow, and as the sober person you end up being the person who is their shoulder to cry on.

The People Who Can't Even Stand Up

Being the sober person you realize that some people get so drunk they must forget how to stand up, and it happens over and over again, and you can't help but watch them, and feel bad that they became that drunk.

The Total Mess

At the end of almost every night when you're with those who are drinking you always have that one girl who can't even pick her head up or open her eyes because she got so drunk. You are just glad that you are sober.

The Escort Service

After you see the people who can't even walk without looking like a total mess you can't do anything, but walk them home just to make sure they are safe.

Self Realization

Being sober, I get to go home, and sleep in my own bed every night. I don't have to worry about how I am going to get home, and where I will wake up, because I know what I am doing. I won't my night throwing up or risk missing class the next day because I can't get out of bed because of a terrible hangover. And that is the most amazing feeling in the world.

At the end of the day, I am happy with my choices of being sober, and still being able to have fun, and enjoy parties. In no way would I bash or judge anyone for their drinking habits because everyone has their own way of having fun. I just wish more people could realize that you can still have fun without drinking.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
