All of us have insecurities about certain parts of our body that we wish we could change. Rather than obsessing about the things we can’t change, use clothes and accessories to visually alter your proportions. You can easily use clothing to change the appearance of the shape and proportion of your body.
The mid-section is a common problem area. When getting dressed in the morning or shopping, try on clothes that accentuate the smallest part of your waist. This is usually right under your rib cage. Add a belt to a dress or shirt to make your waist appear smaller in width. If you don’t have a slim waist, you can try dresses that have an empire waist. This style of dress hits you under your chest and flows outwards, flattering your figure nicely.
To elongate the torso, choose shirts and tops that hit mid-thigh. This creates the illusion of a more evenly balanced top and bottom and gives length and a slim appearance on top. Another way to lengthen your torso is to wear lighter tops paired with darker pants and skirts. You can also use jewelry, scarves and garment designs to draw the eye up towards your shoulders and face. To shorten the torso, wear high-waist pants and tuck in your shirt or blouse if you have a slim frame.
Skinny jeans are currently a fashionable trend that everyone is wearing. However, some people can pull them off better than others. When you do choose to wear skinny jeans or pants, be sure to wear a larger top. A blousy shirt or a button up are great examples. This will create the allusion of a smaller lower half.
If you have wider hips and larger thighs, you can easily create the appearance of leaner legs and a smaller frame. Choose a trouser pant that has a wider bottom and that falls in a straight line to the floor from your hip.
Skirts are also a great way to achieve a slimmer look. Wearing an A-line skirt hides the widest, upper part of your hips and thighs. This type of skirt is cut to gradually flare outwards, making your legs look thinner.
Hopefully these tips will help you dress your figure appropriately and you will find yourself looking and feeling better about the way you look. After all, when you look good, you feel good!
