Dressing the Man: How to Transition Between Summer and Fall

Transitioning between those hot summer months into warmerĀ early fall months can be tricky, especially when you live in Charleston where one day we could have a chilly 60Ā° day and the next a hot sweltering 95Ā°. Hereā€™s a list of easy-to-wear and trendy fall transition pieces for the man. Ā Ā

The Denim Jacket:

This classic piece is not only the perfect layering jacket for a traditional fall look, but it also translates to your spring wardrobe too! Ā  Ā Ā

The Oxford Shirt:Ā
This is a season-less piece that has collegiate fall written all over it. Transition easily from a cool summer night to a brisk fall day. Ā

Ā Ā
The Tweed Blazer:

This piece is no longer just for Professors and Hipsters, Tweed is everywhere this season, and itā€™s the perfect way to dress up a casual fall look. Bonus points if the blazer has elbow patches! Ā

The Tortoise Shell:
Tortoise Shell is huge right now and goes great with the fall color palate. Ā Ā

The Flannel:Ā
Flannel can be pretty heavy for those summer/fall transition months, but a lightweight flannel in a buffalo check or a plaid print can add some color and character to your fall collection. Ā Ā

The White Jeans:
White denim is often seen as taboo in the manā€™s closetā€¦ mostly because many men donā€™t know how to dress with a bold white color. Fall is the perfect time to wear white because you can accent a dark bold earth tone with white. Ā

The Barbour Vest

A great light-weight vest in a classic fall color that turns any outfit into the perfect fall ensemble.

The Color Chino:
Chinoā€™s in a bold fall color like Olive or Burnt Orange can set you apart from the crowd this fall! Be sure to keep the rest of your outfit in the same family of colors. Add a printed poplin shirt to bring the runway to the streets.Ā

Ā  Ā Ā

The Cardigan:Ā

This perfect light-weight sweater makes it easy to warm up and stay trendy. Ā

Ā

The Desert Boot:Ā

No footwear says fall like the Desert Boot and it's an easy way to give any outfit a classic fall look.Ā

So men, impress your girlfriends this fall season by dressing trendy for her for a change. And ladies, take this opportunity to dress up your man. He'll appreciate it when he gets the extra looks and havingĀ fashionable man candy on your arm will work wonders for your own image, too!Ā

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichƩs, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And donā€™t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Donā€™t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and youā€™re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. Youā€™re running late because youā€™ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterdayā€™s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies.
