Dressing For Success Vs. Dressing For Comfort

Welcome to Fall!

The leaves are changing, the temperature is dropping, and deciding what to wear to class just got harder.

Since the ease of summer is gone, throwing on a dress or a pair of shorts and a shirt every morning isn’t the only option anymore. With the change of the weather comes the different factors to think about...

1. Am I going to freeze on my walk to class?

2. How will my classrooms feel?

3. Is it going to get warmer in the afternoon?

Weather in Indiana can make it pretty difficult to figure out what to wear. As if there's multiple seasons in a day, the mornings tend to be pretty freezing, while in the afternoon, things begin to heat up again. Thanks, mother nature, for making it pretty much impossible to find an outfit that suits for the whole day.

So now, with all that in mind, you open your closet and ask yourself the age old question: dress for success or dress for comfort?

Dressing for Success

I find dressing for success surprisingly easy in the fall. With layers, you can make a simple shirt look pretty classy when you throw on a cardigan and scarf. Also, by putting different pieces together, anyone can quickly go from preppy one day to a grungy hipster the next. The ideas are really endless when you're choosing from your whole closet. If you want to keep the shorts in your wardrobe, never fret! Wearing tights under them, whether they're a fun statement color or a classy design, will not only give you more options in your closet but is also a trend that hasn't disappeared yet.

Cons? Layers can get pretty hot when inside the classroom, and taking them on and off repeatedly can get tiring. Luckily, when it gets warmer in the afternoon, you can always tie the cardigan around your waist or bunch up the sleeves.

Dressing for Comfort

When you wake up in the morning and the weather is in the 40s and 50s, the last thing you want to do is get ready for class. Anything big, baggy, and which mimics a blanket is exactly what I go for when dressing down is my option for the day. There's nothing better than grabbing my favorite pair of leggings and a warm, fuzzy sweater. And who says you can't look cute at the same time? My go-to comfy outfit has and always will be a sweater dress with leggings and tall boots. Since it will only take me about 15 minutes to get ready, I can spend the majority of my morning hiding under my blanket from cold.

Cons? If you just threw on a sweater and it gets warmer outside, all you can do is roll up your sleeves or grin and bear it. But really, what's worse? Freezing or sweating?

Thank goodness fall has finally come! I know we're all ready to break out those favorite fall outfits and jump in some leaves!

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

Thanksgiving break is over and Christmas is just around the corner and that means, for most college students, one hellish thing — finals week. It's the one time of year in which the library becomes over populated and mental breakdowns are most frequent. There is no way to avoid it or a cure for the pain that it brings. All we can do is hunker down with our books, order some Dominos, and pray that it will all be over soon. Luckily, we are not alone in this suffering. To prove it, here are just a few of the many deranged thoughts that go through a college student's mind during finals week.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.
