Reality over imagination.

I can't feel anything...my body feels so cold. My hands are slowly turning purple and I can't say a single word due to the dryness in my throat...the room is cold. It feels as if there is no life around me. The plants near me are frozen solid and the water has crystallized, sparkling as the light hits it. All of a sudden, I see a light across the room shining so bright as if it's purposely trying to grasp my attention. I start to see water droplets fall from the ceiling, the ice is melting and I start to feel the warmth come over me, slowly allowing me to move. Free from that frozen nightmare, I walk towards the light. It seems as if it wants to take me somewhere as we walk around this building - unable to find a way out until we reach a tall cold metal door.

"Knock knock."

I hear nothing from the other side. The light moves behind as if it wanted me to go inside. I open the door but can't see anything. It's so dark that I can't even notice the floor or the walls...

A few steps in and I suddenly fall into an abyss of darkness, already as scared as I can be. I don't want to imagine what's going to happen next. I decide to open my eyes and see light at the bottom. Light as pure and as bright as the sun. I had to close my eyes again because I could feel them burning and then start to water. I stop falling.

I open my eyes and realize I'm not on the floor. As I stand floating, I giggle at the thought that I'm just a few inches off the ground, wondering how all of this was possible. I reach for the ground, but as soon as I touched it, the room went dark. I fall to the floor, not being able to see a thing, only hearing the sound of a man's voice:

"Come this way." he said.

"Where are you?" I yelled out.

My head started filling with voices as if I were in a crowded room listening to people chatter all at once. Kneeling to the ground and covering my ears as I yell in pain, I start to see a fiery path of flames on the ground headed towards me. Running, I feel the room getting hot. I see the light again just a few feet away. The fire grows, reaching up towards the ceiling, lighting up the entire room. But it was too late. I fell into another dark hole that made me fall into the open ocean.

I see a beach nearby with people dancing and walking on the shore. I swim as fast as I can, but it feels like I can't reach them. I yell and I yell, yet no one can hear me. I'm living a nightmare, and after all the pushing and kicking, I feel weak. My lungs fill with water and I turn my face towards the sky. I see the light... and for once I reach towards it.

And just like that, I was back on the hospital table.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs.
