“After Roethke, The dreaming”
I speed towards sleep, and snap back awake.
I love by learning what there is to love.
I occupy my mind until it breaks.
Observation searches for what’s at stake, but
When the evening shifts into ether,
I speed towards sleep, and snap back awake.
O’ dreams! I would that you whisk me to fate!
The night, but a veil atop these eyes, and so
I occupy my mind until it breaks.
Light delivers itself for the world’s sake;
The towering eve soon turns to new gold, and so
I speed towards sleep, and snap back awake.
Musing, eyes closed, has given naught of late;
So strip off the sheets, crawl to life, lovely,
and occupy your mind until it breaks.
Take things slow when you are sailing the strait;
What falls away is always: Nothing else.
I speed towards sleep, and snap back awake,
And occupy my mind until it breaks.
