After getting through the stresses of exams, summer vacation has finally begun. Students at The College of New Jersey can relax for a couple of months, and they have a bevy of opportunities to look forward to. Summer is a time for fun and adventure, as you'll be hanging out with friends and going on wonderful vacations. You can go on road trips and enjoy the beautiful weather, and summer internships are a great opportunity for developing yourself professionally. The summer is a time for relaxation, and one way to kick it off is to listen to some awesome dream pop songs.

1. Cocteau Twins - "Cherry-Coloured Funk"

This track is sure to get your summer off to a gorgeous start. Hailing from Cocteau Twins' 1990 album "Heaven or Las Vegas", this track is a perfect introduction to what the band is all about. Lis Frazer's soothing vocals play over a bed of glistening guitars, and Robin Guthrie makes his riffs sound like waves streaming into your ears. Along with a robust bassline and a divine atmosphere, "Cherry-Coloured Funk" is an excellent fit for sitting on the beach with your friends.

2. Slowdive - "Morningrise"

A track like this will get your summer off to an unusual start. Sounding like it was recorded in the bottom of a cave, "Morningrise" will dazzle you with its entrancing aura. Coming from Slowdive's 1991 EP of the same name, "Morningrise" is defined by an oddly dissonant wash of formless guitars. The effects make the guitars sound like they're coming from the depths of your subconscious, and it shows Slowdive's knack for creating sonic journeys into the universe. "Morningrise" brings introspection to your summer vacation, as you're eating a delicious scoop of ice cream.

3. Ride - "Sennen"

Ride brings a serene form of dream pop with this gem of a song. Hailing from their "Today Forever" EP from 1991, "Sennen" is a pleasing and immensely pretty tune. Ride carries this song with a chiming riff that cleanses your soul, and the guitars keep a steady pace throughout with a strong hook. Supported by powerful drumming and excellent harmonies, "Sennen" demonstrates a breezy side to Ride's style. It's also a great way for listeners to have calm summer nights.

4. My Bloody Valentine - "All I Need"

This track from My Bloody Valentine's "Isn't Anything" combines shoegaze and dream pop in a sublime way. Featuring guitars that sound like a hurricane coming at you, the song floats away as you're drenched with a storm of atonal distortion. The overwhelming dissonance in the song approaches cacophony, but it's calming in a transcendent way. Airy vocals increase the celestial components of the song, and My Bloody Valentine's unique compositions give a clamorous element to the summer.

Overall, the summer should be a season that's full of excitement. It's a time for great memories and good times, as you get to relax and free yourself from the craziness of college life. The summer can be a time for college students to have a lot of fun, and checking out some dream pop will surely help with that. Listening to Slowdive and My Bloody Valentine is another way of enjoying life, and be sure to get some good headphones to hear this wonderful batch of songs. Summer, here we come!

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate
Mental Floss

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

It's the most wonderful time of the year! Christmas is one of my personal favorite holidays because of the Christmas traditions my family upholds generation after generation. It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way. It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that. Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows. Surviving them is a must, and the following five phases are a reality for all majors from business to art, nursing to history.
