"Oh, where your dreams will take you."
When we're young we're taught to shoot for the stars and not let anybody get in our way. But what happens when the person stopping us is ourself? What if we are the ones holding ourselves back from our full potential? Well then maybe that wasn't our dream in the first place.
Dreams often change as we age and as our interests become different. But when you catch a glimpse of that final destination you hope to achieve, baby hold on tight.
Growing up my dreams always seemed simple, almost a given. I was going to grow up, become a mother, never work a day in my life and somehow be filthy rich. Or to audition for "American Idol," win and become a huge superstar. Either way, I was set, that was all I needed. But as I grew I knew my life wasn't going to turn out that lucky, nor did I want it that way anymore.
As I grew, so did my dream. I want to write. I want to write for some of the biggest names in newspapers and magazines.
New York, New York, the city that never sleeps. Before visiting the city I never wanted to write print; what can I say it's a dying art. But after stepping inside The New York Times building, I knew I was where I was supposed to be. The atmosphere, the people, the pace, I knew I belonged.
Just like that my dream was made. I never wanted it before, but now it's all I want.
While having a dream is one of the easiest parts of life, with wishful thinking, and hopeful thoughts, the dream still feels miles away.
America was built on nothing but dreams and hard work and it's come so far. This is the same for anyone with goals and dreams in life. It seems as though many dreams are left in our minds, unachieved because in this world we're our own worst critic. Putting ourselves down, saying there's no way things can happen the way we want them to. But I'm here to tell you they can.
You know it's the right dream when you can feel it in your gut.
It's all you think about.
It's all you talk about.
It's what all the hard work you do during the day is towards.
No one, nothing, can stop a true dream.
So dream on my friend, dream on.
