Dream Home, or Settle?
New House With Friends

Everyone dreams about their dream house as soon as they start thinking about their future. It could be a simple list, or it could be extravagant and planned down to the certain white picket fence around the yard. The list of trying to decide what you are willing to sacrifice versus what you will wait to appear on the market. For we all know, that we will never truly be happy till we find the house that can become a home.

1. A sturdy foundation, for you have to have a sturdy foundation for anything to blossom.

2. Four walls... Okay, this one may seem a little cliche. However, after some of the houses I've looked at, Walls seem to be a big dealer than I imagined.

3. Floors that aren't gaping holes. Floors are totally different than the foundation. They connect with the walls and lay upon the foundation and you'd surprise how many floors don't meet the walls or it's a resembling of walking on a teeter-totter.

4. Location is a bigger part of this then I gave it credit for being. The location can impact how much the house is worth. There is land that is worth more than a house value, where when you build on it the value only increases.

5. Proximity of what is around it. Location is different than proximity, for in my case, I didn't want another house conjoining it. I wanted to be able to walk around my house and not touch the neighbors house.

6. The vision of what could be. You can't reason with yourself to put an offer on a house without being able to see the potential. This is probably the hardest thing, but some houses make it easy.

7. Tacky Decorating.... I can't tell you how many houses I've walked in and immediately was like "NOPE".

Please take down the animal print if trying to sell your house, love the future buyers.

8. Curb Appeal is probably the win or lose thing I look at. I want to have this feeling when I drive down the road that just overwhelms me with happiness when I see the house. The massive tree stump, pile of dirt, overgrown weeds, and the tacky gnomes are definitely things that make me want to keep driving on down the road and don't stop at the house.

9. Yard space is a big deal. I never visioned myself living anywhere that I couldn't have a dog, or even having the ability to have a backyard tag football game. We're in the south, so you can't tell me backyard football isn't important.

10. CRAZY NEIGHBORS... Need I say more? I can quickly turn around as fast as I pulled up if there is some crazy neighbor half naked like the song "Redneck Woman" by Gretchen Wilson on display.

11. 3 words... Home. Owners. Society.... That's been a constant struggle. I want to be able to have a fire whenever I please. Who wants to have rules to live by.

12. A big spacious renovated kitchen, y'all may think I'm kidding. This is a deal breaker for me. If I feel as if I'm in an apartment trying to cook, it just isn't for me.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.
