Dream Big, Even If Your Dreams Are Changing

Dream Big, Even If Your Dreams Are Changing

When I was a little kid, I distinctly remember having the biggest imagination. Like many kids, I could play outside by myself for hours and not get bored. I would choreograph dances and put on talent shows with my sisters, my cousin Thomas and I would write scripts and act them out in front of the whole family and we even made a few of our own movies. It's safe to say that I had a creative childhood full of tea parties, dress up, and stuffed animals.

As cliche as it sounds, I was one of those major Disney Channel fans, and it made me dream of being an actress one day. I took acting classes, did community plays and even had my own agent for a little while. One of my coolest childhood experiences was getting to audition for TV commercials at Screen Gems studios. However, as I got older, I began to learn how difficult it is to actually make it into the show business and that it's also the kind of dream that has to be your whole life.

That didn't mean I would give up my dream of being on TV one day though. Eventually, I decided it would be just as cool to be the person interviewing celebrities on the red carpet and/or being a news reporter. I have always been that girl who watches interviews of my favorite actors on YouTube for hours and researches all about the movie I just saw in theaters on IMDB. So I also think it would be awesome to become a movie producer and work in the film business.

Because of the extreme competition, being the face on camera is thought to be one of the toughest jobs to obtain in the broadcasting and entertainment industry. However, that doesn't mean it's impossible. There is a particular group that we journalism and TV production majors fall under because we have similar personalities, common interests and also the same dream. This group of us is used to the "oh wow" response after people ask us what we want to do with our lives. But this is what makes our group unique; we are ambitious and prepared to put in the extra work and maybe pull a few more all-nighters to achieve our ultimate goal.

One day, I want to have a career that I have a passion for, not a job that just pays the bills. My sights are set high for a future working in New York City or Los Angeles. I believe that I can contribute something special to this world, even if I haven't figured out the exact recipe to do that yet.

I am pursuing my dream, I am ready for the many obstacles that will come along the way, and I can't wait to look back and smile when that dream becomes a reality.

girl with a hat

This is for the girls who have dealt with an emotionally, mentally, physically or verbally abusive father.

The ones who have grown up with a false lens of what love is and how relationships should be. The ones who have cried themselves to sleep wondering why he hurts you and your family so much. This is for all the girls who fall in love with broken boys that carry baggage bigger than their own, thinking it's their job to heal them because you watched your mother do the same.

Blair Waldorf Quote
"DESTINY IS FOR LOSERS. IT'S JUST A STUPID EXCUSE TO WAIT FOR THINGS TO HAPPEN INSTEAD OF MAKING THEM HAPPEN." - BLAIR WALDORF.

The world stopped in 2012 when our beloved show "Gossip Girl" ended. For six straight years, we would all tune in every Monday at 9:00 p.m. to see Upper Eastside royalty in the form of a Burberry headband clad Blair Waldorf. Blair was the big sister that we all loved to hate. How could we ever forget the epic showdowns between her and her frenemy Serena Van Der Woodsen? Or the time she banished Georgina Sparks to a Christian summer camp? How about that time when she and her girls took down Bart Bass? Blair is life. She's taught us how to dress, how to be ambitious, and most importantly, how to throw the perfect shade.

too tired to care

We've all been there. From move-in day to the first finals week in college, your first term is an adventure from start to finish. In honor of college decisions coming out recently, I want to recap some of the most common experiences college freshmen experience.

1. The awkward hellos on move-in day.

You're moving your stuff onto your floor, and you will encounter people you don't know yet in the hallway. They live on your floor, so you'll awkwardly smile and maybe introduce yourself. As you walk away, you will wonder if they will ever speak to you again, but don't worry, there's a good chance that you will make some great friends on your floor!

Recently I completed my freshman year of college, and boy, what an experience. It was a completely new learning environment and I can't believe how much I learned. In an effort to save time, here are the ten biggest lessons I learned from my first year of college.

1. Everyone is in the same boat

For me, the scariest part of starting school was that I was alone, that I wouldn't be able to make any friends and that I would stick out. Despite being told time and time again that everyone had these same feelings, it didn't really click until the first day when I saw all the other freshman looking as uneasy and uncomfortable as me. Therefore, I cannot stress this enough, everyone is feeling as nervous as you.
