Whether you were assigned a double shift or decided on spot to stay and help the team out, then you know all the feels about working a 13 hour work day. I work at very busy job and trust me I've worked my share of double shifts. I always think it's a great when I agree to it but half way through I'm like WHAT HAVE I DONE?!?!
(Don't let this article fool you I secretly love my double shifts).
The dreaded double shift as told by Olivia Benson...
1. You start out your shift with a great positive attitude and think "man this is easy I can handle this no problem!"
2. You've already worked 8 hours of the 13 hour shift therefore you're pretty tired, so of course it's the perfect time that one rude and disrespectful guest insists on speaking to your manager because your explanation isn't good enough.
3. YES!!! An hour away from closing...you can see the light at the end of the tunnel...until you realize the magnitude of the mess all the guests left and you can't wait to clean up.
4. The doors are now locked!!!! It's been 11.5 hours of work and you are just about ready to collapse. Your co-workers try to convince you that only 1.5 hours are left and you can push through!!! Except they only worked 4 hours not 11.5 so they don't understand the tiredness you are feeling BUT the support is appreciated.
5. The night is coming to an end, everything is cleaned up, everything is put away, the cash is all counted and the TV's are turned off so you sit down to take a breather. Your manager is doing last minute things on her computer and asks how you are doing after this extremely long day you just had. You look at her...hold back your tears and say...
6. Ahhhhhhh the words you have been waiting to hear ALL DAY LONG..."okay guys great job today, you are all set". Finally time to go home and sleep...only to wake up and do it all again tomorrow.
