Drawing Party Lines

When did the U.S care more about party politics than it did about its people?

As we all know, the U.S has a sorted history with racism, anti-immigration rhetoric and sentiment, as well as hateful speech against other religions. From the Civil War and its fight for equality and freedom from slavery, to Japanese internment in the Second World War, to modern day fear tactics as a political tool, I can't believe our country has come to this.

Growing up, kids across the U.S have heard all about the American Dream. We heard that anything was possible with hard work an a dream. But if anything has been learned from this election, that most certainly isn't true.

Since I can find little good in this years election results, I had to delve a lot deeper. Maybe this election will have shown people that their complacency will bring no change. It will cost you freedoms and financial agency as well as the innate right to be unashamedly you if you don't exercise your right to vote.

But even more importantly, you will lose your friends and family who belong to minority groups whose precious help in combating those politicians would seek to make them scapegoats for the nations problems. You let them down and you helped in their oppression. If only people in this election saw past their own needs and wants and sought to empower others instead of aid in their destruction.

It's more than red and blue, right or wrong, or even about your politics. As the modern Republican Party seeks to discriminate against each minority and oppressed groups one after another, we all had a chance to stand up and work towards progress and pragmatism.

And anyone who says, "Well I just didn't like her," should feel ashamed. You voted for a man who set this country back decades because of his archaic and 'Glory Days' policies; instead of putting up with a woman for four years who genuinely had the knowledge and skill set to run this country into a new age of progressive and inclusionary policy. And that means that everyone would have prospered.

Even as we come further into December, I'm still ashamed of the choice our nation made.

I just hope those of us willing to put up a fight for those who need help have enough stamina and personal strength to get through these difficult years to come.

I think the hardest thing about going away to college is figuring out how to become an adult. Leaving a household where your parents took care of literally everything (thanks, Mom!) and suddenly becoming your own boss is overwhelming. I feel like I'm doing a pretty good job of being a grown-up, but once in awhile I do something that really makes me feel like I'm #adulting. Twenty-somethings know what I'm talking about.

I went to a small high school, like 120-people-in-my-graduating-class small. It definitely had some good and some bad, and if you also went to a small high school, I’m sure you’ll relate to the things that I went through.

1. If something happens, everyone knows about it

Who hooked up with whom at the party? Yeah, heard about that an hour after it happened. You failed a test? Sorry, saw on Twitter last period. Facebook fight or, God forbid, real fight? It was on half the class’ Snapchat story half an hour ago. No matter what you do, someone will know about it.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.

Working with the public can be a job, in and of itself. Some people are just plain rude for no reason. But regardless of how your day is going, always having to be in the best of moods, or at least act like it... right?

1. When a customer wants to return a product, hands you the receipt, where is printed "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" in all caps.

2. Just because you might be having a bad day, and you're in a crappy mood, doesn't make it okay for you to yell at me or be rude to me. I'm a person with feelings, just like you.

3. People refusing to be put on hold when a customer is standing right in front of you. Oh, how I wish I could just hang up on you!
