These last few days have been very rewarding to all our ears. It went from Beyonce’s “Lemonade” album drop, to Drake’s “Views.” After listening to Drake’s “Views" we can agree that his musical interests extend far beyond hip-hop, and labeling him a rapper doesn't do the artist justice. This is Toronto rapper Drake’s fourth studio album and most diverse and all-encompassing record to date, which is pretty much the entire spectrum of Drake. For those who believe in the “6 God”, it’s Drake season once again. Here are six things you need to know about “Views”:
1. In Weston Road Flows, Drake mentions retiring at age 35.
“The most successful rapper 35 and under
I'm assumin' everybody's 35 and under
That's when I plan to retire, man it's already funded”
If you follow Drake, you know this is not the first time he mentions retiring. In an interview back in 2012 with i-D magazine he said, “There's artists that are 35 and up that still make rap and it still works for them. I don't know if I'll be that guy, you know? A lot of my music is about being young and figuring it all out, so I don't know if I can still make my brand of music when I'm up there and maybe I'll just be acting or whatever it is.”
2. Rihanna is a feature on his song “Too Good.”
And after premiering his album during an interview with Zane Lowe, Drake admits, “It's hard to do guy/girl collabs.” Although this song isn't “Take Care” or “Work,” it still makes you want to dance. Better yet, it makes you wonder if we will ever see them back together.
“And I wanna tell you my intentions
I wanna do the things that I mention
I wanna benefit from the friendship
I wanna get the late night message from you, from you”
3. In his song “U with me?”
Drake starts the track with a sample of DMX’s track “What these bitches want” and the track continues with Drake saying “On some DMX sh*t, I group DM my exes.” Which obviously has everyone wondering what he is referring to. Drake has a reputation for always addressing his on-going beef with other artists via his music, which we can all agree that we love. But really the question at hand is whether Drake's invocation is a peace offering or a snide taunt, referring to DMX’s issues with his exes, that has contributed to his financial situation thanks to a litany of unpaid child support.
4. Another song causing a lot of questions is, ”Keep the Family Close."
"Keeping the family close" has a verse that makes you question if he is talking about Nicki Minaj.
"All of my 'let's just be friends' are friends I don't have anymore
How do you not check on me when things go wrong
I always saw you for what you could've been
And even when it's business with you it's personal again
I knew you before you made ends meet now we're meeting our ends
And its all because you chose a side
You're supposed to put your pride aside and ride for me
Guess it wasn't time
And of course you went and chose a side that wasn't mine."
5. The album "Views."
If you heard Drake’s album “Views” and decided to share your love or hate for his new music on social media, you probably noticed the OVO owl emoji when you used the hashtag #Views on Twitter.
