If you weren't aware, April 29 was a national holiday: The release of Drake's latest album, "Views," from the 6. With twenty iconic tracks, a million copies sold in the first week, and an accompanying tour with many sold out dates, it's clear Drake hit it out of the park again (as if that's something new?) To celebrate his success with the new album, I decided to compile a list of Drake songs to match every mood:
1. "Child's Play"
For: When bae is acting foolish, especially in front of families that drive Camrys and go to Disney.
One of the latest releases off of "Views," "Child's Play" details Drizzy's frustration with his girl who picks fights with him at The Cheesecake Factory, takes his Bugatti to pick up Kotex from CVS, as well as many other issues. Bounce that s*** like whoa right out the door with that nonsense.
2. "6 God"
For: When you're feeling yourself or you need a boost of confidence when s*** is hot up in the 6 right now.
A classic from the so called mixtape, If You're Reading this it's too Late released last year. "6 God" is all about being proud of your talent, how far you've come, and not caring about what anyone else thinks.
3. "Marvin's Room"
For: When you're ready to be in your feelings.
A classic sad Drake track off "Take Care," released in 2011, proceed with caution. This song can make anyone get in their feelings, even after the most wonderful day. That voicemail sample...that mournful club beat...Aubrey's sad voice inquiring about his ex-girl...I just listened to it and I don't know if I can finish this article.
4. "Jumpman"
For: When you and your friends are ready to get lit.
I'm still not over this song nor the release of "What a TIme to be Alive with Future" last fall. When the weekend hits (or Thursday night...or Tuesday night...it's finals week so no judgement) this song is all you need to get in the right mindset to forget whatever final you just finished, your loans after graduation, or how much stuff you have to cart home.
5. "Controlla"
For: When you want to appreciate your shawty and thank them for being who they are.
By far my favorite track off of "Views," "Controlla" is a dancehall inspired bop all about appreciating your partner. You'd lie for them, die for them, do things when they want you to.
6. "All Me"
For: When the whole squad is doing well.
A song off the deluxe version of "Nothing Was the Same" featuring Big Sean and 2 Chainz, this is the perfect song for when the whole squad made the Dean's List, scored internships for the summer, or just made it through the year. Because isn't Drake's billionaire status he talks about on this track practically the same thing?
7. "Back to Back"
For: When you need to body someone.
Whether it's Meek Mill or some asshole trying to score the study guide you worked on for five hours for an upcoming final, sometimes people need a reality check.
8. "Best I Ever Had"
For: When you want your partner to know just how much they mean to you and that they're the prettiest with sweatpants, hair tied, chillin' with no makeup on.
From one of Drake's first releases, "So Far Gone," this song launched Drizzy into mainstream fame. Still a cute throwback, play this when you want your boo to know how much you value them.
9. "One Dance"
For: When you just want to dance.
Another track featured on "Views," "One Dance" is another dancehall inspired song that's just great for wanting to dance.
10. "Know Yourself"
For: When you doubt yourself but then you remember who you are.
"Know Yourself" off of "If You're Reading This" is all about remembering who you are even if other people want to bring you down. Aubrey wants you to know yourself, know your worth!
11. "Pound Cake/Paris Morton Music 2"
For: When you want to feel nostalgic for the journey from the bottom.
A track off "Nothing was the Same," Drake and Hov reflect on their ascent to the top in a way that will make you feel nostalgic for a time and lifestyle you haven't experienced (yet). Hopefully you'll be lucky enough to have that good life be compliments of the company.
Overall, the incomparable Drake has quite the repertoire of songs that will suit any mood you find yourself in. Embrace the feels everyone and enjoy "6 God's" various works.
