Obviously walking around campus doesn't have to be a fashion show, but that doesn't mean you aren't allowed to take a little pride in your appearance. Haven't you heard the ole' Dress-Up-When-You-Have-A-Test strategy? It's simple psychology that tells us that looking good, feeling good, and performing well are all related to one another. So, here are a couple very simple, very affordable clothing items to look out for the next time you're wanting to add to the wardrobe.

1. COMFTY, SLOUCHY SHORTS

Forever 21, H&M, and Old Navy are all some of the many places where comfy shorts make up more than have of their merchandise. I'm serious. The ratios are shocking. Anyways, these shorts are the perfect alternative to the age-old nike shorts and t-shirt look that has long overstayed its welcome. These shorts are loose, figure-flattering, and SO comfy for that oh-so effortless "just rolled out of bed because I hit snooze 6 times and now I'm going to be late" look. Truly timeless.

2. GRAPHIC TEES

This is for sure a basic one, but wearing T-Shirts will never get old, so why not express yourself with a little fashionable flare while doing so? College campuses, especially in the South, are known for the oversized sorority T-shirt look, but let's collectively work towards a world in which we all don't look like clones of the same girl. Pairing graphic or even just cool T-shirts with shorts, jeans, or leggings adds a much more unique element to your appearance.

3. Basic, Monochrome Pieces

Nothing to wear? Bloutfit (n. An all black outfit.)

It's the last trick in the book. Wearing all black, all white/grey/nudes, or a combination of those is the easiest, most classic way to look put together. This might not be your everyday go-to for class, but meeting with a professor, an advisor or a club exec member calls for a nicer appearance than usual. If you're out shopping, don't disregard a black mock-neck sweater or an all grey top, for example, because these are the staples that are often (1) much cheaper and (2) go with EVERYTHING!

4. JACKETS

My. Absolute. Faves.

Jean jackets, those cute bomber-looking jackets, an oversized cardigans. These are perfect additions to any casual outfit when the temperatures start to drop and can make any look more structured and put together.

5. SKIRTS

NOT TO FRET. I understand the idea of wearing a *whispers* skirt is scary, but let me tell you a little something...

Do you ever...

- Feel like not wearing pants

- Want a nice breeze for the lower half of your body

- Want to feel cute with out trying at all

If you answered "Yes" to any of the previous statements, then YOU might be the perfect candidate to wear a skirt! Skirts don't have to be worn in any sort of fancy way; they are honestly the perfect thing to throw on with a graphic tee and some sneakers!

6. Joggers or Flowey Pants

Please refer to #1. These are the winter equivalent of comfy, slouchy shorts. Enough said.

7. OVERALLS

BREAKING NEWS: Overalls don't always have to be denim or only for when you are on a farm! The same cheap stores I mentioned before have such cute options for this style of outfit. Upgrading your basic shirt and jean shorts look is as simple as buckling two clasps!! (Get it? Overalls joke #1) Overalls, in whichever style you like the best, are such an easy way to spice up your every day outfits and will surely rack in the compliments.

I just feel like, overall (sorry), adding pieces like these to your wardrobe are such good investments because you know you'll be able to get multiple outfits out of them by styling with different shirts and shoes combinations.

Most importantly, wear whatever makes YOU feel good about yourself. Wear clothes that make you prepared to take on the day. Happy styling!

Hugs and kisses,

Emma

Taylor Swift in orange dress playing a moss-covered piano on stage with bright lights.

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.
