These past few weeks have produced a plethora of notable highlights from both the Republican National Convention (see: plagiarism scandal) and the Democratic National Convention (shout out to Michelle Obama, the Real MVP). As the United States gears up to witness what will be a bloody, yet undoubtedly entertaining, battle between POTUS candidates Hilary Clinton and Donald Trump and their respective armies, let us not forget the 21 other adults who fought valiantly during the primary season in an attempt to represent their party in the upcoming election. While the group of 23 hopefuls did not equally share the media limelight, one nominee hopeful succeeded in giving Republican Nominee, Donald Trump a run for his money when speaking of political guffaws: Dr. Ben Carson. How a prestigious neurosurgeon lacks basic knowledge of the world and politics, I will never know, but we all have to admit, he's pretty funny to laugh at. I mean, you really can't make this stuff up. (Queue the face-palms.)
1. Not our electricity!
“The fact of the matter is, [Obama] doesn't realize that we now live in the 21st century, and that war is very different than it used to be before. Not armies, massively marching on each other and air forces, but now we have dirty bombs and we have cyber attacks and we have people who will be attacking our electrical grid."
2. Equal Rights = Extra Rights?
“How about we have a transgender bathroom? It’s not fair for them to make everybody else uncomfortable. I think everybody has equal rights but I’m not sure anybody should have extra rights — extra rights when it comes to redefining everything for everybody else and imposing your view on everybody else.”
3. Where would we be without you Fox News? Cuba, that's where we would be.
“Even if all the media tries to shut you down, which they have tried very much to do with me, but they can’t because the good Lord has provided me with mechanisms like my syndicated column and Fox News. We’d be like Cuba if there were no Fox News, I ought to tell you.”
4. Because all the Holocaust victims really needed were some guns:
"I think the likelihood of Hitler being able to accomplish his goals would have been greatly diminished if the people had been armed. I'm telling you, there is a reason these dictatorial people take the guns first."
5. Dr. Carson on the Constitution:
"I grew up in the slums of Detroit. I saw plenty of gun violence as a child. Both of my cousins were killed on the streets. As a Doctor, I spent many a night pulling bullets out of bodies. There is no doubt that this senseless violence is breathtaking — but I never saw a body with bullet holes that was more devastating than taking the right to arm ourselves away. Serious people seek serious solutions."
6. Obamacare = Slavery?
"You know, Obamacare is really I think the worst thing that has happened in this nation since slavery."
