We have all had to take the bus once or twice in our lifetimes. From traveling to and from school in our younger years, trips home during college, and even business trips when we are professionals—buses have been able to get us to and from safely and somewhat quickly. But, after my last bus ride, I have found many flaws in this mode of transportation that everyone needs to start thinking about, now.
1. Ugly cloth seats.
Have you ever noticed that whatever coach bus you get on, the fabric is always terrible. It's ridiculously ugly and instantly hurts your eyes. Then, there is the fact that they are cloth, which makes them even more disgusting. I don't like putting my hair on a headrest where hundreds on other people have put their heads. It's rather gross.
2. Putrid restrooms.
Literally the world's smallest bathrooms. And, they smell so bad! The worst feeling in the world is when you think you really have to go, but decide it's better not to because you may get a disease. Also, you really try to avoid sitting in the back because thou do not want to smell the lavatory the whole time. Yes, true story!
3. Limited foot space.
Seriously, they give you no room to breathe! So apparently, you are allowed a carry-on and a personal item, if it doesn't fit in the overhead, you have to put it on the floor, and you can barely move when it's down there! I feel like whoever designed these seats were not thinking about actually traveling on them!
4. Luggage restrictions.
I discovered the wonderful world of luggage restrictions the last time I took the bus. You are not permitted to have a bag over 62 inches when you add length, width and height. It's self-explanatory on the website, but after reading comments on Google it can lead one to question people's common sense when it comes to reading!
5. Seating problems.
Granted this is a picture of an airplane, but it stands true for the bus. What sucks is when you want to sit with your group of friends but end up getting separated and are forced to talk awkwardly over the crowd of fellow travelers. You don't want to be rude, but you also want to talk to your travel companion, who is exactly eight rows down and sitting next to the window.
6. Sitting next to strangers.
. We all know how weird people can be. Sometimes you are placed next to a talkative person, sometimes a smelly person or someone who just sleeps. Either way, I'd still rather sit next to someone I know.
7. Standing in lines.
Lines are terrible anywhere! But when you are traveling they always seem to be worse. What I dislike the most is when you don't know what people are standing in line for, then, all of a sudden, it turns out to be the line for the bus you were supposed to be on!
8. Traffic backups.
Granted they happen everywhere, but you always seem to sit in traffic a lot longer when you are on a bus.
9. Bad driving skills.
No matter who you are, you have dealt with this. Even in your elementary school days, whether it was your normal bus driver or a substitute, you have experienced what it is like to hit your head on the seat when they slam on the brakes, it hurts! Otherwise, they weave in and out of traffic and ride the back bumpers, and it gets crazy!
10. Lack of food.
Sometimes I really wish buses had food, at least trains and planes do!
11. Inability to sleep.
I think this is the worst of it all. Between watching the road, hearing crying babies, road bumps and obnoxiously loud music pumping out of your neighbors headphones, I deem it impossible to sleep on a bus!
From the weird interior to horrid smells, the bus may get you where you want to go, but at a strange price.
