The poems "Dover Beach" and "God's Grandeur" both seem to reference the change of attitude in humanity over time. It seems to be about a variety of topics such as love, faith, and nature, but is applicable to just about any topic. Though after researching, I discovered it’s mostly about people screwing each other over; to me, it seems to be about things dying off with the passage of time.
We live in a time where lack of religious faith and moral belief are at an all time low in the United States. However, ages ago there were times when the concept of chivalry was a code men lived by and every person in a Christian town would go to church. Personally, I don’t have much in religious belief, but it is certainly true that humanity needs faith, and if that faith is directed towards religion then so be it. Religion can do more than start wars (sometimes). Sadly, that isn’t the case anymore because religion and doing the right thing aren’t a priority anymore. No one is afraid of the burning abyss that awaits them if they do wrong and the law is no better at making people act righteously. The passage of time will only worsen these problems if nothing is done.
These concepts of the passage of time and modern generations losing values is applicable to pretty much any topic, but when referencing god specifically, I can’t help but think of a religious connection.
