The Do's and Don'ts of the Spray

The Do's and Don'ts of the Spray

With recruitment right around the corner, most girls’ minds are flooded with ideas on how they can look their very best. From spending countless hours on the Internet searching for the perfect statement necklace to booking a hair appointment exactly two days before first rounds, the to-do list seems to stretch a mile wide.

One thing that many people (even guys) gravitate toward (especially during rush week), is the tanning bed.

Make no mistake, a summer glow really makes you feel great and lets face it... pretty much everyone looks better with a tan. BUT, is hitting the bed multiple times worth it in the long run?

According to skincancer.org, tanning just one time before the age of 35 increases your risk of skin cancer by 75 percent. On top of that, out of all melanoma cases between the ages of 18 to 25, there is 76 percent chance you can attribute it to a tanning bed.

We’ve heard it all before, tanning is wrong and we really should not partake. However sometimes it feels like there isn’t a guaranteed alternative.

Well there is, generally every tanning place offers spray tans. And though they seem intimidating, they actually work great!

I’ve gotten spray tans multiple times at various places and have been pleased with the results almost every single time. The one time I wasn’t pleased was 100 percent MY fault.

Here I give you the do’s and don’ts of a spray tan:

1. Shower before you go. You do NOT under ANY circumstance want to touch water within the first day of the tan. Almost 50 percent of the color will come off in the first shower and you will lose your best day (or days) of color.

2. Moisturize as MUCH as possible. We’ve all seen the spray tan that eventually turns into a cheetah print. By moisturizing, you can avoid contacting your inner animal and being 50 shades of orange.

3. Talk to the person spraying you. Most generally, the person spraying you will choose the color of solution being applied. By talking to them, you can let them know if it’s your first time and that you want to play it safe. This will pay off immensely in the long run, especially if you don’t know what shade suits you best.

4. Work it. Spray tans are God’s gift to the world, so flaunt your glow! Don’t tell everyone it’s a spray tan, for all they know, you just got back from your Muncie vacation!!

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

Thanksgiving break is over and Christmas is just around the corner and that means, for most college students, one hellish thing — finals week. It's the one time of year in which the library becomes over populated and mental breakdowns are most frequent. There is no way to avoid it or a cure for the pain that it brings. All we can do is hunker down with our books, order some Dominos, and pray that it will all be over soon. Luckily, we are not alone in this suffering. To prove it, here are just a few of the many deranged thoughts that go through a college student's mind during finals week.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.
