What To Do And Not Do At Your High School Prom

You should be in the moment!

Prom is one thing most high school seniors can't wait to go to. Prom is fun because it is one way of celebrating the struggling and sacrifices you have made in high school. Make prom worth it. Below are some Do’s and Don’t of prom.

Do not try to be extra late to prom.

It is a somehow a social norm for some student to go to prom late. However, you don't want to be so late that you do not get to enjoy the celebration. My friend went to her prom at 10:30 p.m. when it was supposed to end at 12:00 a.m. The celebration was almost over. Especially if you want to contest for best dress or the prom queen. You don't want to go that late to prom because you may want to advertise or show off with your dress.

Do dance with your teachers if you can.

Prom is an environment which does not discriminate. Teachers who come to prom act like students because they want the students to be comfortable and have fun on their big day. Take advantage of this opportunity and dance with your teacher if they are available. Dancing to for instance salsa with your teacher creates a more casual relationship between you too. It is where you get to see your teachers on another level. You get to see the party side of them. I bet you would always smile when you remember a day like that any day.

Do get all dressed up! This is the time to look the cutest.

Prom is the day everyone wants to take pictures because it is a big day and it only happens once. I started dreaming about prom from my junior year. It is the day that you want your classmates to see you and say, “damn girl/boy.” You should obviously all the time but on prom day, add extra juice and sauce to it.

Don't be shy to be yourself or be crazy.

Prom tickets are expensive so if you paid to get there, you might as well be in the moment. There is space for shyness during prom. Everyone is busying getting crazy dancing, grinding or talking to their “newfound crushes.” Never be scared to be yourself. Actually, at prom, everyone is busy doing their own thing so it's either you join the fun or sit down rolling the screen of your phone which is kinda boring. One fun memory is when you think you have done enough so you are going to sit down but then the DJ decides to play your favorite song. OMG! The joy you immediately get is overwhelming. hahahahaha.

The Daily Struggles of Being a College Commuter

It's not all morning coffees and singing along to the radio.

The Daily Struggles of Being a College Commuter

I've been in college for four years now. I spent half my time as a commuter and half as a resident so I've experienced both sides of the housing spectrum. One thing I've learned comparing the two is that my struggles as a commuter far outweigh anything I went through while living on campus. Commuters have to deal with the problems school brings along with a slew of other issues; I've filled up my gas tank in the worst kind of weather conditions and napped in random places in public more times than I'm proud to say of. This is a list of some of the most challenging aspects of being a commuter.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!
