Do's and Don'ts of Gameday Fashion

Game day in Tuscaloosa is like no other.

Do's and Don'ts of Gameday Fashion

The elaborate tailgates, the energy and the frivolity exceed every other school in the SEC and the country as well. Saturdays in the South are known to be all-out events, including the fashion. Your Saturday-best should be cute, practical, and comfortable. Show some love for your Crimson Tide.

There are ways to show love for your team without being tacky, and ways to be fashionable but also practical. When you’re spending all day outside, on your feet, you don’t want to be miserable. Here are some dos and don’ts of game day fashion to help make the most of your Saturday’s in Ttown.

Do wear: School colors, neutrals, or black. Obviously, today is the day to show love for our Crimson Tide! You can never go wrong with white or crimson/red, but black and neutral tans are great for game day too. We all know how important looking good on game day is down here in the South, and not limiting yourself to just school colors really expands your trendy choices.

Don’t wear: The opposing team’s colors, especially orange (gag). Save those colored dresses for a date party or a night out.

Do wear: Comfortable shoes. I’ll admit, I break my own rule about this all the time, and I have the blisters, cuts and knee injuries to prove it. They say beauty is pain, but on game day you’re going to be walking long distances, drinking and spending at least three hours standing in the stadium. Leave the heels at home and wear shoes you can actually survive all day in.

Don’t wear: Houndstooth. I know there’s a divide amongst Alabama fans on this one, but personally I think the houndstooth should have been left on Bear Bryant’s hat.  A lot of the houndstooth worn on game day is overpowering and garish.

Do wear: Jerseys. On those days when you’re rushed to get out of the house, or can’t decide on what outfit to wear, throwing on your jersey with some denim shorts is the best way to go.  Wear it Un-tucked or tucked in. You really can’t go wrong representing your favorite player’s number.

Don’t wear: Bows. Ladies, we aren’t 10 anymore. Unless you’re on the cheerleading team, having a bow in your hair looks juvenile and frankly, tacky. Let’s leave the bows behind and accessorize some other way.

So ladies, grab your pins and your shakers and cheer on the best team in the nation. Roll Tide!

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.
