Carnivals are fun. They're some of the epitomes of summer and childhood, and if you're like me, you've never too old to go on all the rides. Plus, they contain ample amounts of guilty pleasure food, including fried Oreos, funnel cake, cotton candy, you name it. However, with the childish charm it has, there are certain rules to go by when attending.
DO: Go with a group, or at least one other person.
I have said going places alone is amazing in the past, and it is for freedom purposes, but there are some rides that don't allow single riders (looking at you, Ferris wheel and paratrooper.) Plus, if you're grouped up, you won't be paired with someone random in the remaining car on those rides you can't ride alone.
DON'T: Wear anything with tiny pockets.
Physics don't care about how important anything on you is, it's going to fly out if you're on a fast or spinny ride. The last thing you want is to have your phone fly out of your pocket on the Tilt-A-Whirl.
DO: Buy a "ride all the rides" ticket, if possible.
Very likely it's more economical than buying a roll of tickets, and less time and brain consuming than counting how many on the roll you have, and if you have enough.
DON'T: Worry about how fattening the food is.
... Unless you have an allergy or sensitivity, of course. But if you're not, I say again, screw the summer bod. You're there to have a good time, and if a good time is stuffing yourself with funnel cake, then do so.
DO: Watch what and when you eat.
...Especially if you're a thrill-seeker who loves to be upside down or you get motion sickness easily. If you have done something similar to the above and stuffed yourself with funnel cake, you may be wise to wait a little bit to go on the Sizzler. Your clothes, the ride, and fellow carnival-goers will thank you.
DON'T: Worry about being judged about what rides you want to go on.
Maybe you're not a thrill seeker, or you just really like rides like the merry go round, the airplanes, bumper cars, or teacups. You can still go on them if you enjoy them, even if they have a "kiddie ride" reputation. You do you.
Even in a world of childhood, there are rules, and if you follow these, you are sure to be safe from embarrassment and lost items.
