I Roomed With My BFF

Long story short, totally worth it.

I Roomed With My BFF
Personal

Going into college, I was told countless times to not live with your best friend(s). Everyone said that we would end up hating each other, not speaking or a combination of the two.

I could see this happening with some people, and I have seen it. However, this is not the case for us. I credit our similar personalities and habits as well as the bond that we have.

The key to successfully living with a friend would be to make sure you are similar. Just like rooming with a stranger, make sure you have similar cleanliness, sleep, and studying habits. If one of these categories is off by a lot, there will be a huge stress on your friendship. Trust us, there are plenty of things that will try to pull you guys apart as it is.

You don't have to live with your friend to keep them as a friend. So many people think that their friends will stop hanging out with them just because they don't live in the same room, false.

There are a few things you should know when rooming with your friend. Keeping an open mind to change is key. I came to college thinking I'd be asleep at 9 every night and waking up at 9 each morning. However, your different schedules may keep you up later or wake you up earlier and as the other roommate, you have to accept that they aren't trying to keep you up or wake you up.

Time apart is also key to a successful roommate relationship. If you both plan on joining sororities, my personal suggestion would be to try and going different sororities. This way you won't be attached at the hip 24/7 and each of you will make new friends and make one big friend group! Our girl gang rocks!

College isn't for everyone and each person has a different experience with classes and such. If you are succeeding and your roommate isn't, try to get them to study with you, get help from a tutor or see their professor. As the roommate, you have such an influential role in what they see and what they should do.

To my roommate/ best friend since 7th grade,

You girly are the best thing ever. You make me smile, laugh and cry(for good reasons, like right now). You have pushed me to be my best self. You have brought light and love into my life and helped me to realize so many things.

I appreciate your kindness and understanding through the last 8 and a half months. Also, huge thanks for being so clean and letting me scream when classes are stupid. Hopefully when we live together in a year (please please please) no one will come up and complain about how loud we are.

Love,

Your biggest fan!!

In honor of Mother’s Day, I have been thinking of all the things my mom does for my family and me. Although I couldn’t write nearly all of them, here are a few things that moms do for us.

They find that shirt that’s right in front of you, but just you can’t seem to find.

10 Reasons To Thank Your Best Friend

Take the time to thank that one friend in your life you will never let go of.

Thank You on wooden blocks

1. Thank you for being the one I can always count on to be honest.

A true friend will tell you if the shirt is ugly, or at least ask to borrow it and "accidentally" burn it.

2. Thank you for accepting me for who I am.

A best friend will love you regardless of the stale french fries you left on the floor of your car, or when you had lice in 8th grade and no one wanted to talk to you.

Everybody gets sick once in a while, but getting sick while in college is the absolute worst. You're away from home and your mom who can take care of you and all you really want to do is just be in your own bed. You feel like you will have never-ending classwork to catch up on if you miss class, so you end up going sick and then it just takes longer to get better. Being sick in college is really tough and definitely not a fun experience. Here are the 15 stages that everyone ends up going through when they are sick at college.

Do as I say, not as I do.

Your eyes widen in horror as you stare at your phone. Beads of sweat begin to saturate your palm as your fingers tremble in fear. The illuminated screen reads, "Missed Call: Mom."

Growing up with strict parents, you learn that a few things go unsaid. Manners are everything. Never talk back. Do as you're told without question. Most importantly, you develop a system and catch on to these quirks that strict parents have so that you can play their game and do what you want.

"Friends" maybe didn’t have everything right or realistic all the time, but they did have enough episodes to create countless reaction GIFs and enough awesomeness to create, well, the legacy they did. Something else that is timeless, a little rough, but memorable? Living away from the comforts of home. Whether you have an apartment, a dorm, your first house, or some sort of residence that is not the house you grew up in, I’m sure you can relate to most of these!
