Dorm Life: UNH Style

It is inevitable that everyone is going to endure the dorm life experience at some point during their college career. For some, living in a dorm may be one of the best parts of your 4 years at university or college. Here at UNH, there is a plethora of dorms to choose from -- each dorm, having their own sense of community and feels.

1. The Sercs

Also, known by their individual names -- Peterson Hall, Haaland Hall, Handler Hall. They have suite style rooms that are clean and updated. These dorms are on the back side of campus and have a wonderful community feel. It is commonly sophomores or juniors who choose to reside in these halls.

2. Congreve Hall

This hall is all about location. Located right in the center of campus, this dorm could not offer anything more. It is right across from T-Hall lawn and has a plethora of windows and a beautiful courtyard. This dorm is highly ranked and the hot spot on campus.

3. Adams Tower West

This dorm originally opened in 2010, where it used to be known as The New England Center Hotel. This dorm is hidden behind Stratford Ave. and right next to the Whittemore Center. These rooms are large triples with a bathroom and wonderful views.

4. Hetzel Hall

This dorm is right off of Main Street, being conveniently next to all the good food places such as The Works and The Durham Market Place. For those who love to be in more of a smaller community, this dorm is for you due to its small numbers of less than 165 residents. This beautiful brick building has spring flowers planted right outside and will make this place feel nothing short of home.

5. Hubbard Hall

This is a coed residence hall for honors students and those who have high expectations in terms of academics. To those who want a quiet and academic based dorm, this one is for you!

6. Stoke Hall

Get ready to have some fun because Stoke is where it's at. This is a freshman/ sophomore based dorm that will give you the opportunity to meet an awesome, outgoing and upbeat group of people. Stoke is also known for being called "The Palace."

7. Christensen/Williamson

These two dorms, located behind Philbrook Dining Hall, are for first year only students. There is nothing more exciting and comforting than knowing you are in the same boat as everyone else -- entering a new school and a new chapter in life. I would highly recommend these dorms to any incoming freshman.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
