The time has come where high school is over and now you are overexcited and stressing about your upcoming year. You will be living away from home in a new space that is mostly all yours. You are so excited about dorm life and life life, but more importantly, you want to have the coolest dorm room around. Truth is, I don't know if you will have the coolest room, because I don't know if you are cool. Although, dorms are small and you need to be comfortable. Why have an overly junky room if you don't have to? Here are some hacks to make sure that you are your roommates/suitemates are comfortable.

1. Utilize The Space

Dorm rooms are small and space gets gone fast. The best thing to do is to build up, and not out. So, get boxes that can stack on top of each other for storage. Loft your bed up so you can put some things under your bed. And if you are short, invest in a cool step ladder or just a wooden seat, because a wooden seat could double as a step.

2. Keep All Snacks in a Bin

Snacks are quick to go when they are left out in the open for everyone to see. Buy a plastic bin for all of your snacks to go in. That way you can break them down and get rid of the boxes when they first come in. You can hide them in your closet or under your bed, that way you can bring them out for the people that matter. It also allows every food item to be in one place and in a sealed container which can help eliminate crawly creatures.

3. Only Bring One Comforter and an Extra Set Of Sheets

Unless you are really messy you only need one bed set. Truth is I did not spend a lot of time in my room. Occasionally I would eat a bag of chips on my bed, but other than that I used my bed to sleep. Having an extra set of sheets will definitely free up some space and make it easier to keep your room nice when you need to wash your sheets, because when you wash one pair you can still make your bed because you will have a clean set to replace them with.

4. A Bedside Table Eliminates You Losing Things

There are some things that can become lost when you do not have a nightstand. Your phone, alarm clock, a box of tissues. These are things that cannot afford to be lost. Seriously, things are expensive! Anyway, if you loft your bed it is going to be hard to find a shelf or something that will be at the height you need. As such, you might want to invest in a bedside table. You can keep your items on the table and not the bed. And when it is not needed you can unhook it and tuck it somewhere.

5. Don't Underestimate Your Life

Bring what you know you are going to use. Your dorm room is probably ten times smaller than your actual room, but that doesn't mean you should hold out on the things you know you will want to bring with you. Therefore, if you are big on makeup, bring it! You just need to find a nice way to store it. Between Dillards, Sephora, Bed Bath & Beyond, and The Container Store I am sure you will find a neat option to store all of your beauty products.

6. Roll Your Way Into Bliss

A rolling cart is a sure-fire way to store things in a dorm room. It is tall and can fit into corners and under places. It is perfect for storing a variety of things, from kitchen appliances to toilet paper. Definitely get one of these if you are big on doing your hair, cleaning with products, and storing toilet paper.

7. Laundry Baskets Save Lives

Laundry baskets can provide extra storage space for things in your closet or in your room, double as a seat, and can also be used to carry and separate your laundry. Laundry baskets make college dorm life a breeze by allowing things to be used in a multitude of ways.

8. Set Up Your Desk

Your main objective is to learn, not to have a cool space to hang, but you can accomplish both. Make sure all of your desk items are in the general vicinity. It helps if everything has a space,so buy a caddy or just a box and place a couple of cups in there to separate everything.

9. Do Not Bring All Your Clothes From Home

Trust me there are not as many events in college as you think! Bring a couple of nice dresses and definitely some cute outfits if you are intending to rush. Just do not overload your closets with tons of shoes and clothes. You are going to be thankful later in the year when your shopping habits pick up and you utilize the storage space. It also can be beneficial to put a drawer or two in your closet.

10. Don't Overdo The Pillows

Pillows are nice and they can make a bed look comfortable, but you do not need to overload your room with bunch of decorative pillows. Bring one or two decorative pillows- any more than that and they will become floor pillows.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs.
