It's that time of year again! Students are checking off their packing lists and making sure they have everything they need for college. But, they may not know that when they arrive their room will have stark white walls and stained carpets -- perhaps, even a moldy smell. Luckily, there are ways to change distasteful dorms into something magical. So, here are some ways to make your dorm cozy, cuddly and all yours:

1. A tapestry.

This is the one I have. It looks wonderful (and cozy) with white Christmas lights around it! Buy it here.

2. Christmas lights.

I have these twinkle lights over my bed and in my bathroom (I never turn on my lights by the way). Buy it here.

3. Candles.

Bath & Body Works and Yankee Candle are the holy grail of candles. This one is perfect for relaxation! Buy it here.

4. Throw pillows.

This is one of several Target throw pillows I have. Jersey Fabrics are the best for comfort and cuddling! Buy it here.

5. A foam mattress topper.

These can be expensive, but VERY worth it. They will make your bed feel like a cloud! Buy it here.

6. Wall décor.

This is my gallery wall (in progress). It is eclectic and makes my room much more homey! Tip: Painting your own canvases adds more of a personal touch! I get most of my decor from Hobby Lobby. Buy it here.

Some tips and tricks:

1. Don’t turn on your lights.

I never turn on my lights unless I absolutely have to. The sunlight from outside and the twinkle lights at night are sufficient lighting 24/7 and keeps my room feeling cuddly.

2. Aroma.

Always have something -- whether it’s a candle or a wall plugin.

3. Dark colors.

OK, so I don’t mean going goth, but dimming down the bright colors can help make your room feel cozier. My comforter is grey and so is my tapestry. That alone makes my room feeling warm and soft.

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.

singing
Cambio

Singing is something I do all day, every day. It doesn't matter where I am or who's around. If I feel like singing, I'm going to. It's probably annoying sometimes, but I don't care -- I love to sing! If I'm not singing, I'm probably humming, sometimes without even realizing it. So as someone who loves to sing, these are some of the feelings and thoughts I have probably almost every day.
