I wish I would have figured this out earlier, especially before being on my own. After thinking and thinking about how to be my happiest whenever and wherever, it took some time to finally understand. And now I have decided to officially make it my new promise to myself.
Do you ever get those random urges to just get in your car and go? I do all the time, mostly when I am bored and want to just go and do something. If you have not, for those that do, you understand. For those that do not, you will eventually understand. Sometimes it is just nice to get away time to time. Aside from that, the real point comes from that. Naturally, humans are impulsive. That is not what I am trying to encourage though.
What I am trying to say is do not plan, but do you. For instance, the best times I have ever had were never planned. One night I was out at a coffee shop playing board and card games with a couple of friends until we all had the bright idea of just going to Atlanta later that night, given it was already 8 o’clock at night. After making a few phone calls to a couple extra friends, we had a group of 3 to a group of 5 all cooped up in a hot car going to Atlanta at 11 at night to see the Christmas lights downtown. After a few shenanigans, we all became a bit tired once it was around 5 in the morning, but that was by far one of the best nights I have ever had. And none of it was planned.
Another time was when I wanted to see the sunset from the highest point in Georgia, Brasstown Bald Mountain. However, like I always do, I took a nice nap. Silly me overslept and woke back up when it was already dark outside. As upset as I was, I thought a bit. The sun comes back up, why not just go in the early morning? And so I did. I find myself on the long road to the mountain at 4 o’clock in the morning and eventually find myself on top of a breathtaking view of not only the gorgeous mountains, but the most beautiful sunrise I have ever seen. That morning was by far one of the most enlightening experiences I have ever had.
Now, I am waiting on saving up enough money to hop on a plane to go somewhere for a few days. I cannot wait to travel more. Another thing I have learned from these experiences is that all you ever really need is a tank of gas and a carload of friends and maybe a candy bar or two.
Anyways, do not and I mean do not plan a thing (I mean in reason of course). It leads to disappointment, and that is never fun. Honestly, surprise yourself. There is so much to life to experience, and who does not like a nice surprise?
