I don't know about you guys, but sometimes there are days that I don't want to get out of bed, I don't want to go to school and see my friends, I don't even want to open my laptop to surf the web or write. I used to lay in bed on these mornings and scroll through my social media accounts, comparing myself to the smiles of everyone and their perfect looking days. "Why can't that be me?" I sighed, longing for the sun in their pictures to be on my face. That's when it hit me. It's okay to have a bad day.
Not every day needs to be filled with fantastic memories that make your heart soar. Not every day is an event waiting to be announced to the world with a hashtag. I mean, the weather isn't sunny 365 days a year, so why hold yourself to that same level of perfection? We all love a good rainy day now and then after all, and sometimes it can be good for the soul to bask in the clouds. When you're having a bad day, however, it can be easy to get caught up in the depression, which is laying around your house for hours on end. Thankfully, there are a few useful projects you can engage in while feeling like a ton of bricks is shackled to your back. It helps make the zero days feel more like one you did something cool, like one of those festival-freaking friends on Instagram.
When staring at a wall feels more productive than anything else, give yourself a breather and let out a sigh and be grateful that you have a day to yourself. Social workers say that we are prone to social burnout and we need self-care in order to sustain our bodies and our mental health. A down day can serve as a chance for some well deserved you time. Take a bath, go for a walk, or sit in some nature. A day to recuperate can boost your spirits and send you back out into society with a new mindset. If staying in the house is more your cup of tea, though, do your laundry, straighten up your room, or light a candle and rest your legs up on a wall. Giving your environment a quick clean is like giving your perspective a fresh set of eyes - it washes away the gunk that once crusted over your bright eyes and bushy tail.
Bad days are part of life and having one doesn’t mean you need to sink away into a mess of them. Something to remember on these days is that failure is inevitable and despite our best efforts, we eventually goof up. That doesn't mean you need to “give up,” but rather, “let go” of what you cannot change. Relish in your downfalls, laugh at what you may or may not have fumbled on. The point is, everybody makes mistakes and wants to take a break for a brief moment. And you know what? There is nothing wrong with that.
