I Don't Want A Lot For Christmas

What to get for that person who is impossible to shop for

history

If there is one thing that anyone who knows me will agree on it's that I am the worst person to try and get a gift for. I am the kind of person who likes to get other people things but once someone asks me what I want for either my birthday or Christmas I completely shut down. This sucks because I could name fifty different things I want to get for myself throughout the year but when it comes time for the holidays where people want to get me things I simply forget about everything and end up saying something like "I don't know I don't really need anything".

This usually pisses people off and I understand that. So I wanted to give you guys a little tip on what to get for that one person you know who is absolutely impossible to shop for. Especially if you are that person who waits for the very last minute to shop for the Christmas season.

1. Gift Card to Their Favorite Store

This is honestly the easiest thing for you to get someone. If you know where they shop just toss them money for that store on a prepaid card and let them have at it. If you don't know where they like to shop you might be a little screwed.Socks maybe?

2. Something in Their Favorite Color

If you know what their favorite color is you can honestly get them anything -- a scarf, sweater, slippers, blanket -- if it's in their favorite color they should love it especially if it's something they can use every day.

3. Something You Have Made

I have given friends homemade blankets in the past which they all loved -- as far as I know -- and something homemade is nice to give to a close friend or family member because they know you put a lot of time and effort into their gift. This doesn't have to be a blanket -- they take FOREVER to make -- but you can make them a scarf, a hat, or you can even make them a little keepsake representing your relationship with the person. As long as there is some personal thought behind it they will love it.

4. A Gag Gift

This is not my go-to option when it comes to giving a gift to someone but if you aren't really close with the person and you don't know them that well -- you picked them for secret Santa for example -- getting something funny is a good last resort. I picked my boss for secret Santa and almost got her a Christmas ornament of a wine bottle that said "partners in wine". Would have been a funny gift for her but in the end I went for something a little more family oriented for her and her daughters.

5. Ugly Christmas Sweater

This is for the Christmas season only obviously. If it is a gift for a birthday you may have to pick one of the other options I mentioned. If you really cant think of anything to get someone and they aren't someone who would appreciate the comedy behind a gag gift then you can just get them an ugly sweater and if they complain you just tell them that they deserve something ugly because they are so hard to shop for.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
