Maybe it's just me, but it seems as though every authoritative figure in my life has this mindset that tattoos are "bad" and that one day I will indeed regret getting them. Unfortunately for them, I don't see the big deal. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure there are people who rashly decide to get a tattoo they later on wish they hadn't; however, that just isn't me. I see tattoos as a way of representing who I am. If that changes, then my tattoos are just a representation of someone I used to be, who also built me into the person I became.
Tattoos are a work of art. I could stare at them for days. When I look at my own, I honestly can't imagine myself or my body without it. It has become a part of who I am and I can't wait to add more along the way of finding myself and simply living life.
But aren't I worried jobs won't hire me because of tattoos? Simply put, no. For my profession, appropriate tattoos are nothing that is frowned upon. However, if I did find myself in a setting that did mind tattoos, I am smart enough to make sure they are easily covered. If an individual wants their tattoos on display, that is up to them and there is no need for one to bring up the question of jobs as I'm sure they are already well informed.
I think the issue with people thinking of tattoos as something that may later be regretted is that those people view tattoos in a different light than I do. I see getting a tattoo as nothing different than dying or cutting my hair or even buying a new outfit. It's just another addition to myself and in my opinion only enhances my beauty by representing who I am.
While some people may look at a tattoo as a way to permanently disfigure one's body, I see it as a way to document the present. One's loves, passions and inspirations.
The number one reason I don't see my tattoos as a big deal and neither should you? It's my body. If I want to be fit and live a healthy lifestyle, I see that as no different than wanting to add artwork to my body. I'll be the judge of what is good and "bad" for it and if that's an issue to anyone else, then I'm sorry. The world has become a much more open-minded and accepting place and hopefully soon everyone will have the mindset that tattoos aren't a big deal and that the idea of them is actually pretty cool.
