You can't get on the Internet anymore without running into people giving their opinions on what's going on in the country. If you haven't been living under a rock, you're aware of the hatred going on between left and right. There's a lot of judging and labeling going on and that creates a divide between the people in this country.
It used to be impolite to ask someone who they voted for, yet on multiple occasions, I have been asked and I have witnessed others being asked. Very few people are okay with your answer when it isn't the same as theirs. Having a conversation about politics, in general, has become so difficult that it's like pulling teeth. Everyone tiptoes around triggering each other, and when they don't, they go all out screaming at one another.
Is that really the answer though? Is it that hard to respect another person's opinion while having your own? If, and only if, I decide to tell you who I voted for, you don't get to decide who I am. You don't get to call me a racist, a snowflake, a bigot, a crybaby, a misogynist, or a socialist. I am me, I am not my vote. That goes for everyone, no matter who you voted for, you are not your vote.
Your vote is just what you think is best for the country you live in. It's your freedom to have a voice in a political system, no matter how seemingly messed up it is. Voting conservatively or liberally does not make you the label that people will give you, and it is no one's business but yours. The most important thing is just that you do it.
If you don't it's like saying you don't give a crap about what happens. You are a citizen and voting is a privilege. Don't let anything influence you from voting or how you vote.
