An Open Letter To The Person Who Took My Unassigned Assigned Seat On Test Day

Next time just sit in the back and save everyone some trouble.

An Open Letter To The Person Who Took My Unassigned Assigned Seat On Test Day
Rachel Grantham

First of all, how dare you? I know you, you're the person who stopped coming to class about a month and a half into the class but here you are for test day. You're that person who everyone assumes dropped the course. And now you don't know where to sit on test day because you don't come to class. Ever.

Well, listen up. The rest of us who are here regularly sit in the same spot. EVERY. SINGLE. CLASS. What makes you think that it's okay to come in and sit in any old random seat for test day?

You threw me off, and now I've taken someone else's unassigned assigned seat and thrown them off too. Do you see the chain of reaction here and why it causes an issue? It is rude and inconsiderate of you to walk in here, 15 minutes early for a test in a class that you never actually go to, and sit in someone's seat. It's common knowledge at this point that matching your study/learning conditions to the test environment can help you do better on tests. So WHY would you come in and mess that up for at least an entire row of people?

To help you out, here's what you should've done: sit in the back. The people who sit in the back typically don't care too much about where they sit anyway. If you don't want to come to class, whatever, that's not my business or my concern… until it affects me personally. And when you take my unassigned assigned seat, you're affecting me personally.

Next time, please do me a favor and sit in the back of the class. Don't make me have to ask you to move. Please. I've been in college too long to have to deal with this mess and I can't take it anymore. I go to class and I have my spot, I am begging you to not take it from me, especially on test day.

Sincerely,

A Stressed Student

Do as I say, not as I do.

Your eyes widen in horror as you stare at your phone. Beads of sweat begin to saturate your palm as your fingers tremble in fear. The illuminated screen reads, "Missed Call: Mom."

Growing up with strict parents, you learn that a few things go unsaid. Manners are everything. Never talk back. Do as you're told without question. Most importantly, you develop a system and catch on to these quirks that strict parents have so that you can play their game and do what you want.

"Friends" maybe didn’t have everything right or realistic all the time, but they did have enough episodes to create countless reaction GIFs and enough awesomeness to create, well, the legacy they did. Something else that is timeless, a little rough, but memorable? Living away from the comforts of home. Whether you have an apartment, a dorm, your first house, or some sort of residence that is not the house you grew up in, I’m sure you can relate to most of these!

There is nothing quite like family.

Family is kinda like that one ex that you always find yourself running back to (except without all the regret and the angsty breakup texts that come along with it).

No matter how long your class is, there's always time for the mind to wander. Much like taking a shower or trying to fall asleep, sitting in a classroom can be a time when you get some of your best ideas. But, more than likely, you're probably just trying to mentally cope with listening to a boring lecturer drone on and on. Perhaps some of the following Aristotle-esque thoughts have popped into your head during class.

Advice To Live By As Told By Bob's Burgers

The Belchers hold the key to a better life.

Bob's Burgers is arguably one of the best and most well-written shows on tv today. That, and it's just plain hilarious. From Louise's crazy antics to Tina's deadpan self-confidence, whether they are planning ways to take over school or craft better burgers, the Belchers know how to have fun. They may not be anywhere close to organized or put together, but they do offer up some wise words once and awhile.
