If you're friends with someone for a long time and it comes to your attention that they sexually assaulted someone or they almost killed their friend in a tragic drunk driving accident, you shouldn't continue to support them and their sh*tty behavior. Just because you've known someone for a while doesn't give you an excuse to pretend their behavior wasn't that bad. It was THAT bad.
Take accountability for the people you surround yourself with because they are a reflection on who you really are! Choose wisely.
Personally, I want to surround myself with genuine, caring people who truly want the best for me. I always try to see the good in people, but there are some things I consider unforgivable acts. I have no obligation to forgive anyone, especially if they're a person who repeatedly makes bad decisions. I have to protect myself and my own best interests.
This idea of not supporting sh*tty people is directly connected to our current culture. Chris Brown is an AMAZING example of a sh*tty person (considering his domestic violence issues), yet people CONTINUE to support him! The people that choose to support him, claim that society should separate the art from the person. However, this argument makes zero sense to me because supporting someone's art is supporting someone!
Whenever I've asked my friends to come to important events of mine, it's because I WANT them to support me and I want them to be there. They're coming to DIRECTLY support me and my photography. If they weren't supporting me, why would they come? Someone's art is directly connected to them because it's THEIR art. How can we possibly separate the art from the artist?
Refuse to support sh*tty people. Make people try to be better.
