For starters, I know that I'm going to get a lot of backlash for this article. There will be people who comment "Baby killer!" and "Emails!" and "Benghazi!" and "Bitch!" but that doesn't bother me.
It doesn't bother me because I stand by the things I believe in and I have a clear head that doesn't resort to name calling, cursing, and jumping to conclusions. That being said—here's my reasoning.
I'm going to go over a couple of the policies that I think are very valuable and also some of the changes that the democratic party wants to make.
The first one is raising minimum wage and strengthening the middle class. This is so absolutely important because for the longest time now, the rich keep getting richer and the poor are poorer. Granted, the US doesn't have much "absolute poverty" yet, but we're headed down that road. The goal is to raise worker wages, expand affordable housing and home ownership, protecting social security, revitalizing the national postal service, and ensuring retirement funding. I don't want to see this country become a second or third world country. Right now, we're not, even if certain presidential candidates make heinous statements that we are. We're a strong global competitor against other world powers such as Russia, China, and Western Europe. And we need to protect our strength and image.
The second Democratic idea is uniting the American people. It's a wide topic, I realize, but let me break it down for you. They want to end systematic racism by closing the racial wealth gap and end stigma of African American youth and adult men and women. We want reform of our criminal justice system and obviously we need that- due to the Brock Turner case and many other cases (some that are personal to me and the people in my life) that have malpractice and bribery spelled all over them. Another important issue to this campaign is the rights of women, the LGBT community, and people with disabilities. Fighting for equality for the indigenous people in this country because they are the true historical image of an America.
The third and most overlooked problem that needs attention is global climate change. The policies that surround Hillary and her campaign want to build a clean energy economy, secure environmental justice, and protect our public land and waters- such as the sacred land in North Dakota that is sentenced to be ruined and the water of the indigenous people that surround it will be compromised. That shouldn't be a problem, especially because the land we promise them is land that we promise them.
Another change that they aim for is to provide quality and affordable education to everyone and anyone. This movement strives for debt-free college to be a reality and making all schools equal in the quality of the education that they receive so that everyone is able to get the same opportunities.
And finally, they put emphasis on protecting our American values. These values include supporting women and young girls, the LGBT community, young people (Millennials), religious minorities, refugees, people with HIV and AIDS, abortion; and helping victims and prevention of human trafficking, torture, and racial injustice.
These are just a few of the bigger reasons why I support the democratic party and will continue to do so, no matter who the face of the campaign is.
Now, the whole topic of this article is the fact that I vote for Hillary and the party she represents- but I do not support her as an individual. I think there are dozens of people who would be better at holding the presidency in the democratic party. Hillary is a level-headed, smart woman and I admire that about her- but I will not let that take the horrible part of her away. She has some huge skeletons in her closet and everyone knows. Nothing can be proven at this point, of course, but I know. You know. We all know. She isn't completely the person she portrays herself to be, which isn't an ideal trait for a leader. But let me tell you this: I look at the opposing candidate and I see incompetence, evil, and narcissism. I see racism, sexism, and all the "isms" you can imagine. I agree that Hillary is not the picture of perfection, but no president thus far has been. The republican candidate is the wrong choice, he has always been the wrong choice, and he always will be.
Vote Hillary Clinton 2016- or basically any party that isn't run by Donald Trump.
