Five days a week, we spend hours in class, studying, doing homework and projects, and stressing out about our grades in general. The weekend is for taking a break from that highly stressful and busy lifestyle of a college student. Undergraduate college students, please do not study on the weekends.
The weekend starts Friday around dinnertime and continues to Sunday afternoon. During this time period, you should not be in the Library or even reading your textbook in your bed for a quiz on Monday. There is a reason we do not go to class on the weekends, and there is the reason for the saying "TGIF." It is such a buzzkill when your friends are excitedly making plans for the weekend and you pipe in saying you think you are going to study all night in the library for your test next Wednesday... I am sorry, but no. You have plenty of time to study before then. No sense in wasting a great football weekend studying.
I am a strong believer that it is never necessary to study on the weekends. You can either stay up late on weekdays studying or get a head start during the week before you have tests. We are college students, so we do not get sleep, anyway. It is okay to study all night for an exam at 8 a.m. It is okay to prepare little by little for an exam two weeks from now so that you are not having to miss out on the weekends.
You have to plan out your studies and social time perfectly. It is a science. That does not mean you have to calculate your weekends into it. You have a swap or date party during the week? Stay up a little longer on Sunday night to get homework and studies out of the way for the next few days. I am even convinced that weekend studies are not necessary the weekend before final exams. Especially because this is the last weekend with all of your college friends before everyone leaves for Christmas or summer break! It all comes down to how well you can manage your time.
Time management is a hard act to accomplish. Know what you have to do each week and pick out times to do it, and you do not have to worry about extending your schooling hours to the weekend.
