It's been more than 2 weeks since November 9th and perhaps you had a few political debates over Thanksgiving dinner, but apart from that, the election hysteria seems to have largely died down.
Unfortunately, the number of hate crimes against minorities have NOT died down; rather they have been escalating, and seeing my loved ones personally affected by these issues is hurting me, to say the least.
To everyone supporting Trump and talking about 'giving him a chance' and everything let me be clear: We aren't fighting Trump. The elections are over and so are any campaigns for any president. What we ARE fighting are the social issues that have arisen since the election. And maybe Trump isn't a racist or sexist or whatever the word is for someone who doesn't believe in climate change. Maybe he doesn't actually want to grab women by the pussy. Maybe his VP doesn't believe in conversion therapy. But you can't deny the sheer fact that even if Trump isn't a white supremacist--he is bringing out the ugly racist, supremacist sides of many people.
I live in one of the most liberal states in the USA and in just a few weeks since the election, my friends and I have been personally affected by this. As in white men literally coming up to us and telling us to leave the country personally affected. Don't even get me started on the stories I've been hearing from different parts of the country. None of them are cooked up by the 'liberal media,' I'm talking about first-hand accounts, personal incidents, but most importantly, I'm talking about me carrying a pepper spray around because I'm living in fear in my own god damn country.
So no, not every republican believes in many of the sentiments that Trump does. But if you are NOT part of the victimized groups, you do NOT get to decide whether or not we should be living in fear and we REFUSE to normalize sexual assault or islamaphobia or any of the other issues Trump has treated well, normally. So yes, we will keep fighting. And America will continue to be the great place it has always been.
