Sometimes we just get so comfortable with the one we love that we forget that no matter how long we have been dating we still need to take the time to actually date. We get so caught up in life that we forget to take the time to focus on our significant other. For a relationship to work and to stay exciting you need to actually take the time to date. I was told this advice not too long ago. He was explaining that he and his wife made time to forget about the world for just one day of the week and focus on each other. They were married for fifty something years before she actually passed away. He told me about how happy he was and how she was the princess and how he was the lucky one. I'm sure if I would have had the chance to talk to her she would have said the exact same thing about him. They had the relationship everyone wants and dreams of having. By the end of this conversation we were both emotional. I am so thankful I had the chance to talk to the gentleman and for him taking the time to spread some words of wisdom. This touched me because I come from a home of parents who are divorced and the way this world is becoming more and more people are getting divorced. As I begin to get to the point where I think about the future my relationship hold the thought of divorce alone scares me. The marriage rate is 6.8 per 1,000 people and the divorce rate is 3.6 per 1,000 people as stated on the CDC website. Those figures are scary. Over half of everyone who gets married ends up divorced. I don't want that to happen to me and the thought that it could makes me rethink everything. It makes me think about the person I am with and that I shouldn't just date for the heck of it. We need to date someone we want to marry and spend the rest of our lives with. We need to date someone and never quit dating even after we are married. People always come up with excuses why they do not get date nights, but you need to make the time. He had three kids and still made time to go out with his wife. He would plan a date and open the doors and do the whole nine yards to impress her even though they had been married for a long time. If they can take the time so can we. If you value your relationship just continue dating them and never stop. I can tell you from experience that the nights that my boyfriend picks me up and I'm all dressed up and we go out to eat make me so excited. Do not get me wrong I love my boyfriend and I look forward to hanging out with him even if we are just watching a movie, but something about being picked up and taken somewhere and it being all planned out is exciting. Long story short take the time to keep dating the one you love and never stop.
