Being an incoming freshman in college can be intimidating and scary. Here's a few tips for the new freshman in town.
Always check the weather before leaving for classes
This actually happened to me on the third day of school. While I was walking to class, the sky was baby blue. But after those short fifty minutes, the sky was dark when I walked outside and it was pouring rain. And guess who forgot their rain jacket! I fast walked back to my dorm and once I was home, I looked like I had just stepped out of the shower fully clothed. Just check the weather before going to class.
Procrastination
We're all guilty of this, even the upperclassmen! Throwing together a month long project in one night is not fun. It's super stressful and there's a great chance you won't get the best grade you would have received if you hadn't waited until the night before. As soon as you have homework, go ahead and knock it out! It will be one less thing you'll have to do later on.
Study Techniques
This isn't high school anymore! You can't memorize information just for the test and forget it as soon as you take it. You are in college to learn more about your major so that later in life you will be a professional in that area. With that being said, there are study techniques that will help you remember that important information for the rest of your life. Studying weeks in advance actually is one great technique!
Go to class!
Most freshman when they attend college, especially a big university, are away from home for the first time. We all love the new freedom we have but this is not a free ticket out of class. Missing just one class can set you back really far. Just go to class!
Find your classes before they start
I personally do this every semester and it saves so much time and confusion. No one wants to be that person who walks in late the first day, so not professional! Find your classes a day or two ahead of time so you make a good impression the first day!
But most of all, embrace the change and enjoy this new chapter in your life!
