Don't Lose Hope
Carli Taylor
"Never give up. Today is hard, tomorrow will be worse, but the day after tomorrow will be sunshine." -Jack Ma

Jack had the right idea. Some days are the worst days in your mind and then you wake up tomorrow and you take on the day. Every day you wake up is a blessing; that's the beauty of giving yourself another chance. Life is a challenge, and sometimes giving yourself a second chance isn't the hard part; it's giving other people the chance. Have you ever had a friend betray you? A partner cheat on you? Family lie to you? You may sit there in tears, thinking about everything that you have done wrong to have led to why they may have lied to you. You can go through all these options on what to do. Sometimes all you have to do is hear what they have to say and think through on what is best for you. Yes, today is bad and tomorrow is a bit harder, but that day after is going to be the day you wake up and are stronger than before.

Never give up. There's no point in going a single day wasting questioning people or yourself. No point in being sad over something you may not have been able to control. You are in charge of your life and that's the whole beauty of it. You can wake up and decide you want to work 10 times harder on your goal than the day before. You can decide to take a break and go relax. Every day is a day you decide what to do with it. People have their input that they may deem necessary to share with you, but you are under no obligation to follow it.

"Never give up; for even rivers someday wash dams away." -Arthur Golden

Don't give up; you may not be able to accomplish today right away. However, Arthur had the right mindset. You can accomplish anything; it just may take longer than others, which is hard. It may be hard to watch people succeed more quickly than you, but when you begin to get the hang of it you feel this sort of happiness that can't be just given to you.

Have you ever worked very hard in school or on an athletic team and finally accomplished a goal you were working toward? Do you remember that feeling? Do you remember the reactions of those who helped you get there? Carry that feeling throughout life because that's the constant reminder that you can do anything when you set your mind to no matter how difficult it may be. Look at yourself in the mirror every morning and say five positive things that make you smile; let it set the tone to your day. Be strong and never give up on yourself and be aware of those around you.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.
