Don't Listen to What the Peanut Gallery Says

This is your dream and your life, take charge of it!

Don't Listen to What the Peanut Gallery Says

I have officially entered my sophomore year in college, but no matter how old you are, people are always going to ask you what you're majoring in and why you chose that path. Well, being a Pre-K to Fourth Grade Education major, I get all of the eye rolls, jaw drops, wrinkled noses, and the whole nine yards. Well, I'm here to tell you, do NOT give up on your dream just because there are those people in the peanut gallery that like to give their opinion on everything, because no matter what path you may choose, there are always going to be those people that try to talk you out of it and tell you that it isn't worth it.

Chase down your dreams no matter what they may be. In the end, your opinion of your future career is the only one that matters. For me, I always love the lines of "well you won't be making very much money/good luck living on that salary" or the famous "I hope you're willing to move away from here, they never hire teachers around here anymore". Well guess what peanut gallery? This is my life and not yours so I am going to do what makes me happy. So what if I am not sitting in a bath tub full of one-hundred dollar bills? I am going to be happy. If I have to move or if I have to drive a little further to get to work everyday, then so be it. I can handle what it takes to be a teacher. There's the old saying "If you love your job, you will never work a day in your life" well that saying applies here to me and to every single one of you fighting to chase down your dream.

It should not matter to anyone besides yourself what you do with your life. Recently, one of my friends posted on Facebook stating that she is not going to pursue a degree in college but rather pursue her dreams of becoming a professional dancer. And guess what? Yep, you've got it folks, the peanut gallery kicked in right away saying how much of a poor decision she is making. Do not listen to what the peanut gallery says people!

As long as you walk across that stage with your diploma in hand, it should not matter what the degree may be as long as you know in your heart that you have made the right decision for yourself! So what if I never make millions of dollars, so what if I have to move out of my home town, so what? Take charge of your future, take charge of your career, and take charge of your dreams. This is your life, this is your job, this is your calling. Find what makes you complete. No matter where life takes you, you will not be able to please everyone. Please yourself and be happy with your decisions. Do not listen to the peanut gallery!

I think the hardest thing about going away to college is figuring out how to become an adult. Leaving a household where your parents took care of literally everything (thanks, Mom!) and suddenly becoming your own boss is overwhelming. I feel like I'm doing a pretty good job of being a grown-up, but once in awhile I do something that really makes me feel like I'm #adulting. Twenty-somethings know what I'm talking about.

I went to a small high school, like 120-people-in-my-graduating-class small. It definitely had some good and some bad, and if you also went to a small high school, I’m sure you’ll relate to the things that I went through.

1. If something happens, everyone knows about it

Who hooked up with whom at the party? Yeah, heard about that an hour after it happened. You failed a test? Sorry, saw on Twitter last period. Facebook fight or, God forbid, real fight? It was on half the class’ Snapchat story half an hour ago. No matter what you do, someone will know about it.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.

Working with the public can be a job, in and of itself. Some people are just plain rude for no reason. But regardless of how your day is going, always having to be in the best of moods, or at least act like it... right?

1. When a customer wants to return a product, hands you the receipt, where is printed "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" in all caps.

2. Just because you might be having a bad day, and you're in a crappy mood, doesn't make it okay for you to yell at me or be rude to me. I'm a person with feelings, just like you.

3. People refusing to be put on hold when a customer is standing right in front of you. Oh, how I wish I could just hang up on you!

RBF, or resting b*tch face, is a serious condition that many people suffer from worldwide. Suffers are often bombarded with daily questions such as "Are you OK?" and "Why are you so mad?" If you have RBF, you've probably had numerous people tell you to "just smile!"
