A college degree should work as an open door, not an anchor.

I Don't Like This One, May I Have Another?

I just spent the last three years working my butt off to get my degree. I put in hours and hours of work, I stressed myself out, I paid lots of money and now that I am done I don’t want it anymore. I love what I studied, I have so much love and respect for people who want to go down that road, but I don’t want to take that life path.

I was always told to go to college, I never really had an option. I started college when I was 17-year-olds, I had not a clue what I wanted to do. At that point in my life, I was just excited to be moving out of my house and making new friends - I wasn’t focused on what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. I was told I had to choose a major, so I did. I put no thought into it, I didn’t take time to explore what I wanted to do. I didn’t have time, I had three months in between when I graduated from high school and when I started college.

I took the time in college to explore what I liked, I started new hobbies and really found a passion for life, it turns out none of that passion was for the major I chose. It was too late, though, I had three semesters to go and was at a point where I was stuck. I finished my degree and now, here I am, I have student loans and a degree I don’t really want.

College should have a trial and error time. They should allow you to try anything and everything you want, let you experience jobs and fields of study. Taking the time to figure out what you want to do and then let you pick a major.

No one knows what they want to do when they are 18 years old, you can’t decide what you want your life to look like until you try it. Life is such a crazy thing, you have so many years and so much time to do whatever you want. There are so many different options and so many choices. A college degree gives you options and opportunities, but it also shouldn’t limit you. A college degree should work as an open door it shouldn’t work as an anchor.

If you are in the same boat as I am, I hope you see the future as an open door, you have a college degree, you have accomplished something so amazing. You worked hard and have something to be proud of. Now, I encourage you to find a hobby and a career you are passionate about. Live life to fullest and know that you always have a college degree to fall back on if you need to.

Blair Waldorf Quote
"DESTINY IS FOR LOSERS. IT'S JUST A STUPID EXCUSE TO WAIT FOR THINGS TO HAPPEN INSTEAD OF MAKING THEM HAPPEN." - BLAIR WALDORF.

The world stopped in 2012 when our beloved show "Gossip Girl" ended. For six straight years, we would all tune in every Monday at 9:00 p.m. to see Upper Eastside royalty in the form of a Burberry headband clad Blair Waldorf. Blair was the big sister that we all loved to hate. How could we ever forget the epic showdowns between her and her frenemy Serena Van Der Woodsen? Or the time she banished Georgina Sparks to a Christian summer camp? How about that time when she and her girls took down Bart Bass? Blair is life. She's taught us how to dress, how to be ambitious, and most importantly, how to throw the perfect shade.

Dear High School Friend Group,

My sweet angels, where would I be without you guys. We all grew up together because we either met in middle school or high school and watched each other grow up and get "old." We got to go to prom together and then graduate together. Then watched each other as we continued our lives in college, joining sororities and meeting people who will impact our lives forever. It all has happened so fast.
