Let's face it: there are not a lot of options after studying when all you want to do is eat. You just don't feel like walking to the dining hall or making a sandwich. You immediately jump to the instant mac 'n' cheese and ramen. We've all been there. This becomes a habit and you end up the same way, every day. The key is to stay strong, girl. Just like junk food, healthy food can become a habit.
At most universities, there are only a few places to eat, but that should not stop you from eating some good food. Most places will have an alternative from burgers, fries, and pizza. Even though that sounds yummy, try switching out fries with some yogurt and granola in the dining hall. The campus restaurant serves garden burgers and on-the-go sandwiches.
I recently cut soda from my life completely and let me tell you, it changes everything. It's only been a few weeks and I already have more energy and feel the need to walk down the stairs than take the elevator. You instantly feel better without that syrupy carbonation. Good alternative choices include milk, lemon tea, and fruit infused water. I promise, you will feel like a changed person in less than a month.
If you're a fruit fanatic and not so much into veggies, no worries. The dining hall serves fruit mostly in the mornings. I know it's a struggle to get up early, but if you have time between an 8 a.m. class, take the chance to grab some fresh fruit to cheer you up. Salad is served all day in the dining hall, with carrots, baby tomatoes, and many more toppings. Be warned though, the salad is very close to the dessert bar.
Another good way to have energy and to lose some weight is to head over to the campus gym. You pay for it anyways, so why not go burn some stress out by rock climbing? You can go anytime with a campus ID and it's definitely a must.
Have no fear! You may be a busy little bee, but give your body some good vibes and your busy schedule won't seem so stressful and long. Beat the thought of the "Freshman 15" and you'll get through the semester. Next time you talk to your parents, you can tell them you are taking good care of yourself.
