Don't Let Stress Control You.

Stress happens, but don't let it bring you down.

At this point in the semester, stress levels are at an all-time high. Professors are cramming in projects, papers, and exams right before Thanksgiving break and everyone is suffering. On top of that, extracurriculars are trying to have fundraisers and other events to keep you involved. Will it ever end??

It's important to keep a handle on your stress - staying stressed for long periods of time can lead to depression, anxiety, becoming ill, and many other mental and physical health problems. Here are some ways you can keep your stress level down:

1. Talk about it.

Don't hold everything in, it will only make things worse. Have a deep conversation with someone who cares about you a lot. Somebody who will listen to you and not think you're crazy or overreacting. Somebody who will hold you tightly and tell you 'everything will be alright.'

2. Take a hot bath or shower.

This one is my go to when I am stressed. There's no better feeling than letting the hot water hit your skin or sitting in a hot bath complete with bubbles and candles. Don't forget the wine ;)

3. Take a nap.

Take a break from studying and school work, nap for a little bit! It will help you feel more relaxed and more well rested.

4. Find time to do something fun.

You can't always do school work, you'll end up exhausted and wound up tight. Go hang out with your friends, watch some Netflix, go out, do something you enjoy and get your mind off all the stressful stuff!

5. Take a deep breath and RELAX.

Getting good grades is important but so is your mental well being. Being stressed is only going to make your work ethic go down, leaving you less motivated to do your work and study. Close your eyes and breathe.

Remember: you're allowed to scream. You're allowed to cry. But don't you dare give up. Stress sucks and it feels like a ton of bricks but it does go away with time. Just relax. Take care of yourself first.

Taylor Swift in orange dress playing a moss-covered piano on stage with bright lights.

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.
